Do you have a landline and sky tv? If yes you could get it through sky. If you do not have a landline, then you could get mobile broadband. There are different offers. I am with 3 mobile broadband as I do not have a landline. I pay £15 for 3GB which is not a lot as better offers are now available but my 12 months is up now so I will either upgrade to a better offer or look for another cheaper alternative.
Have a look at Martin's broadband tips, might help you.

if you not going to use the internet much vodafone pay as you go mobile broadband is good as well. Cost you about £39 (forget about special offers / cashback) which include £15 topup. That top up only give you 1GB allowance but what good about it is that it does not expire by time, only by the amount you download. So if you only download say 100mb a month it will last you roughly 10 months before you need to buy other £15 topup again.

Do you already have a BT line? Unless you go for Virgin Media (assuming you are in a cable area) you need a BT line for ADSL broadband.
The only other option is mobile broadband through a dongle.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Without a BT line or Virgin, mobile broadband is the only other option.
With BT line you will pay £11.25 for the line rental, plus the cheapest bb contract you can find. If you are on a market 3 exchange you can get Plusnet for £5.99, otherwise you will pay more. Check your exchange on samknows.com and see what LLU operators are available on it, one of those will be cheapest. But unlikely to be much less than £20 pm in total.

  • tiscali i had no landline then charged me £30 to connect me and it's unlimited broadband for £14.99p/m this includes your line rental and free weekend calls.
But recently they have sold to talktalk but might be worth giving tiscali a call to find out.

If you have an O2 mobile phone go with them , great deals !

but just gong back to the start ......

and maybe an overlooked question, but do you still live with your parents ? if you are in the same hous eyou can just share their connection - sorry but it wasnt clear if you were or not, just that you were getting second PC.

or you could just use dial up! , usually 1p a minue with loads of providers , no contract or anything.

^ but then the cost of a BT landline is still £11.25

    Virgin L BB

    £15 for 1st 3 months & £65 cashback

    £240-£15-£65= £160 divide by 12 = £13.33

^The best deal around considering NO landline will give you over 8MB, or 8MB broadband for under £4 + £11.25 line rental = £15.25 minimum :)
