Only a bit.
We've self selected the seats that suit us best (not helped by AA changing the plane from a 767 to a 757) and I've got our hotel for the first night covered. We're arriving quite late, so we won't be collecting the car until the next morning.
The next thing is going to be getting the best deal that we can on a Luxury Class car, whilst minimising the chance of getting a Chrysler 300.
Oh and i've got the last nights hotel covered.
I've got the directions to the nearest Walmart to buy a child seat and a SatNav to use for the trip
Other than than, nowt else done.
p.s. the insurance is booked as well0 -

That is usually my first destination as well, stock up on toiletries, trainers, socks & underwear etc, it is so cheap there and saves space in the luggage going out.0 -

Us too! - usually at about 4am on the first morning when we haven't adjusted to the time difference yet! :rotfl:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

One of the things that we would like to do whilst we are away, is going to a gun range, hiring a few weapons and blasting away for a little while. There are several ranges that say that children are very welcome to attend with their parents (& a few that say that children are welcome to shoot), but has anyone gone shooting at a range in Texas, adn if so, can you remember if it was family friendly, or not ?0

Can i also suggest that you look for the Rodeos, i was in Texas about 2 months ago and missed them. In fact it seemed we missed everything.
I can't post links but there is a site, google Events in Texas and you will get a site with everything thats going on from festivals and cook offs to beast auctions etc... Texas is one of those places that can be either crap or great, in my opinion Texas should be done Texas style.
Don't fall for the canyon breakfasts they are hugely expensive, instead go to one of the state parks (admission is usually about $5) and go have a BBQ (they are already there for public to use)
Also, when you get to the hotel there will most likely be a leaflet rack with tonnes of stuff to do.
Have a great time - We did.0 -
Thankls Kenny - rodeos are going to be high upon the list of MUST DO things.
The idea of having a BBQ in a State park is a cracking one and soooooo obvious. I've just got Texas by Frommers in the post and I'm making slow, but steady progress through it.0 -
Time for an update - I've just sorted out my hire car with US rentacar, who I've used before. The right car, for the right price, PLUS the price included an extra driver and just as importantly, no One Way Charge in Texas (as well as IIRC, North Carolina,Ohio, & Virginia & one other) & its a Budget vehicle.0

I can't believe that its only 3 weeks away to blast off -- I'm studying the weather on a daily basis (I'd be happier if it was showing in the 70s some/most days and an odd 80 would be welcome as well
) At this stage, it looks like we'll be giving a waterpark a miss
I've got a couple of gaps that I wonder if anyone can fill ?
I've got a 281 mile drive from Fort Worth to San Antonio - does anyone have a suggestion for a stop off for lunch/ leg stretch/ tourist attraction/comfort stop that is just off the beaten track (it looks like we'll be taking I-35)
& I've also got a 266 mile trip from Corpus Christi toGalveston to take, once again, does anyone have a suggestion for a stop off for lunch/ leg stretch/ tourist attraction/comfort stop that is just off the beaten track - it looks like we'll be going via Victoria and El Campo, or would you rather 'hug' the coastline and go via Port Laveca & Freeport ?0 -

My mum recently told me about a really fun website https://www.roadsideamerica.com which shows all the "quirky" (read, at least in some cases, "extremely random"!) roadside attractions in the US and is searchable by state, city etc or can show you on a map. I know my parents have found some interesting diversions on their many trips across the states, including Texas where they're off to in a week or so. The things they list would definately qualify as "off the beaten track"!0
