Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 7th June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome, so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please DON'T post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS lovelies! hi.gif

No Tristan yesterday but I can't sleep today so here I am again. It's because I have had horrible tooth ache for two days now and if it wasn't for hard drugs and clove oil I would have been in tears more than once. I got up to take some more paracetamol but it's aching too much to go lie down again so I thought I would sit up and distract myself by hoping Tris might log on.

Taplady - you almost sounded apologetic about using your tumble dryer... please don't, I know a lot of us on this thread have them and use them and in the winter they are invaluable. I wouldn't be without mine although drying on the line is always my first choice. I guess a lot of people equally would see them as a waste of money and not very OS but in my case with no central heating there is a limit to how much you can dry in front of one small fire when it has rained for a week!
Mioliere - great to hear from you and those cats sound gorgeous.
nic1 - how exciting! Glad you have found the dress, it sounds like it was waiting for her to go in and find it.
Essex-girl - could you pm the link to your backup service please hon, would be interested to see how much it costs.
To anyone who didn't get Sybils blog link on yesterdays post, it is HERE.

Well we finally had an end to the sunshine as it rained for about six hours yesterday although the sun did come back around tea time. Didn't get out to the garden but my OH reports that everything looks happy and refreshed for the downpour! My butternut squash is growing about an inch a day I think, it's amazing!

We are having belly pork and roast potatoes and veg for Sunday lunch and I have more paperwork to sort through on this desk.. it's all just in untidy piles!

I hope you all have a peaceful and loving weekend. Warm gentle grouphug.giffor anyone who wants or needs one.

p.s. Still looking for Kingsmill Wallace and Gromit vouchers if anyone finds any!

Just read the blog, and saw that her cat had an eye infection and has since been sick, poor thing!! I'm guessing the two are somehow related so good luck tomorrow)

Couldn't comment in the blog, but I did want to post because I have a cat with very gunky eyes (always, he's snuffly) and the temptation is always there to stick your finger in and pull out gunk!! We were recommended, from a very experience cat breeder, to use Optrex eye wash (the stuff for humans). Dampen a cotton wool pad and give your cats eyes a pretty good scrub - we were told it's completely safe for cats and helps them to have clean eyes if they're weepy.

(to clarify, by scrubbing the cat's eyes I don't mean peel their eyelids open and go! just headlock poor kitty, bring pad close to wipe his eyes, he will shut it and then scrub away to clear out gunk. I was pretty surprised with how ruthless she was!)
    I love surprises!

Morning everyone. Up early this morning; it looks brighter than yesterday, when it rained practically all day and night.

MSD - you poor thing, having toothache. Do you have a dentist? If not, phone NHS Direct on 08454647 and they'll give you numbers for emergency dentists in your area - for the weekend, as well as during the week. Your local Primary Care Trust (which should have a website) should have a local emergency dental helpline number, too. Hope you hear from Tris soon.

Maggie - cold milk is great for cleaning around a cat's eyes, if you haven't got Optrex.

Well, dinner tonight is undecided, although I have some mince that I should use up, as well as some left-over boiled pots, so I think I'll cook that with my 'luxury' cabbage. I say 'luxury' because we haven't had one for weeks because they cost 2.50 euros, which is almost £2.50! I remember thinking they were dear in the UK at .89p! They were on offer this week for 1.65 euros so I've treated us. It's a huge one, though, so I hope to get three meals worth from it.

    Well, off for another cuppa.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    Morning everyone.

Well still wet here but I am thinking the garden really needs it. checked the monthly forecast and its looking better for our holiday soon so fingers crossed we can get to the beach.
Tea tonight is meat from a turkey leg I cooked last night. If you missed my post last night I wasn't impressed with it. Trying to get the meat off was impossible so shan't be trying that one again I am afraid. Had I seen the thread about cooking them before I might have cooked it differently (though not in SC as it was too big!).
Going to take the kids swimming this morning and just carry on with normal chores. Got to put BM on, my H just eats so much bread I find it hard to keep up!!!!

Diva: We had our Wallace and Gromit toast rack come through. Really disappointed as its just plastic with stickers. For some reason we thought it would be slightly better than it is.
Maggie: Laughing at the "headlock poor kitty"! My old cat was a really tough fighter so not only headlock but she had to be well wrapped in a towel as well.

Have a good Sunday everyone, OS or not.

    Morning all

Diva hope the toothache eases - it really is an awful pain to have (((Hugs)))

Bright and sunny here at the moment but forecast is for rain so unsure about putting washing out on line - I shall see how the morning goes. Off to church shortly with DD1 so can't linger long this morning, wm on and floors swept and cleaned. Off to the garden centre later need a new plant to fill a hole in border as for some reason buzzy lizzies have curled up and died! Also want to make a hanging basket for front door.

    Have a nice sunday everyone

    Morning All

MSD - will PM you re the backup service, ouch to the toothache - nothing worse!

Mioliere - how much for a cabbage  I hope it tastes extra delicous :rotfl:we have some growing this year and they are looking good at the moment.

Had a lovely day yesterday, drove straight there with no problems, am proud to now know that I can drive round central London. Salon was lovely much more friendly than ones round here but extremely busy. Didnt do too much shopping after as was cream crackered from sitting in the chair for 4 hours. Hair looks and feels lovely, they real test will be when I wash it but I cant really wash it till tues/wed!

Its wet and miserable here today, kids are still grounded so we are indoors all day which suits me as can get the ironing done & a good start on the paperwork, should be roast for dinner but couldnt decide what to have so will have a route around in the freezer later.

Also will be doing next weeks menu plan and Tesco online shop, would be nice if I could get a discount code but they are very scarce at the moment.

Off now for a peaceful surf before the rest of the house wakes up.

    Morning

Sorry, I haven't posted on here for a while, so not up to speed with everyone, but nice to see some of the 'old' faces are still around. Sorry to hear about the toothache Diva, I'm not a fan of dentists, but hope you get it sorted soon

Can't believe how cold it is this morning, the heating is back on again :o

Work today, so nothing very OS going on here, I am lucky that we have a South facing conservatory and DH has put a clothes airer in there, so am managing to dry most of the washing without using the TD.

I'm assuming from Essex-girl's post that JackieO has had good news, so :j from me too'

    Good morning all:hello:

No lie in for me today, woke an hour ago with back ache and just couldn't settle so here I am with two cups of coffee and two ibuprofen.
It obviously rained last night but is bright and sunny now so can't wait to get out in the garden.
Plans for today - put BM on, clean out hamsters, do some weeding, tidy store cupboard, take rubbish to dump and cook YS chicken for dinner tonight. If I get time I might try the curry sauce recipe I found on one of the threads and that should do for dinner tomorrow.

Diva - hope your toothache settles down.

Have a good day everyone, (((hugs))) to those in need.

    hi

MSD you need to ring NHS direct for emergency dentist.....toothache is awful:eek:
Moliere I remember certain things costing a fortune when I lived in france. so much so that it used to take almost a day to do our shopping as there were huge differences in the cost of things in different supermarkets.....so we used to make 3 lists and go to 3 shops.....one was good for meat and had special deals on certain meats each week so we made our plans around that...another had fruit and veg at half the price of the others and the last one was a huge hypermarket which had all the dry goods we needed. Champion was the meat place, Casino was where we got f&V and LeClerc was the hypermarket.....of course it is always cheaper to eat what the locals have as we learnt.....I remember craving swede while we were there and they just don`t eat it.....it is pig feed :rotfl:
Nic glad the dress has been found at last:T

well spent most of yesterday asleep or lying about:rolleyes: as still feeling rough. Today DS is back, am making roast loin of pork with mustard drizzle for lunch. We will be taking him to his special needs swimming party tonight which he looks forward to each month.
Looks really dull outside but no rain so will go out and inspect the veg today and feed my toms.
    Hugs to all in need

It is a lovely cabbage, but so it should be for that price! Noah - I've been looking for swede out here; now I know why I've not been able to find one!

Hi Sistercas - hope you are well.
