BT con?

I noticed today that my BT bill was unusually high last month. I investigated my account online and it appears that aswell as increasing their charges by 25% they have started to take the following months rental in advance, effectively double charging me last month! I had no contact from BT warning of these impending changes, instead only noticing when viewing my bank statement!
A shoddy way to treat customers surely?!

AgreedIf you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
BT used the same scam to increase my bill this month! I'm on e-billing and noticed that the DD thjey were about to take had nearly doubled. The explanation was that they had re-aligned my bill with my payment date but all they have actually done is slap next month's rental on this months bill, saying the bill will return to normal next month. What a con! - must be raising millions for BT this month with no consideration toward the impact on customers.
Anyone got hold of BT and given them an ear full yet?0 -
I always thought that BTs rental was in advance anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Where's the con?0

Monthly bills were always billed for a calendar month up till last month. My bill is usually around the 11th of each month so last bill on 11th May had line rental for 1st - 31st May, so in essence for me it was 11 days not in advance and 20 days in advance.
This months's bill has decided to bill me from 1st - 11th June and then from 12th June - 11th July so an extra 33% approximately.
Yes it does fit in with the line rental in advance but no letter/email was ever sent to say they were going to do this which I would have expected.0 -
mmmstreaker,
There can be times when the rental period on a bill is aligned for an area. If you'd like I can check to make sure there hasnt been any error or overcharge. PM me with your details.
Thanks

OP,
BT did exactly the same to me without any notice, prepay billing.
Also they increased costs as you state and although they have sent us a letter stating unless I advise them we want to move off a cheaper tariff we opted into for 12 months, we would continue to stay on it. I was happy to stay on it, so we didn't opt out, but they have still moved us off it onto a more expensive tariff.
I am seriously thinking about disconnecting the whole service now. Contract mobiles and a BT work line would mean the home phone line would not be missed.0 -

Yes they did that to me too, sent a letter saying I will opt in if I dont tell them otherwise and I have just noticed I have been on a more expensive tarrif for the past 3 months.
It means I am not tied into a contract though so I may tell them to push of and take up sky's free line rental offer.
Shoddy to be honest.0
