Hi i am a childminder and i personally would never have either..no offence to dog owners but i just dont like them and i have seen many parents not take places with minders with dogs due to similar reasons like these. As for the trampoline well she should have proper additional insurance for it, where i live we have been advised not to use them due to the high ratio of accidents and even though my dd has one the kids never get to go on it..irrelevant of age.
I would personally write her a letter explaining your reasons etc and let her take it fron there, if she has any sense she will know she is in the wrong and that will be it..Ofsted would not be happy about it i can tell you.
    Good luck

Even if she has additional insurance for it and parental permission, it has to be used to the manufacturers instructions otherwise insurance is void. instructions are there for a reason. I have not seen a trampoline that says to be used by more than one person at a time or for children under the age of 6 (I am talking the big trampolines here). Good to hear that your minded children don't use yours, they are just too much trouble. It's a shame that the origional poster has come across these issues, the profile of modern childminders is so positive, but it just takes one to ruin all the hard work that people have put in to make childminding a quality professional service.

-Trampolines are meant to be for single users
-they should have a safety net
    - your childminder should have informed her insurance company that she has one and the minded children are using it,

Are you talking about Public Liability Insurance here? I'm interested as I am a registered c/minder and have a trampoline. I'd never even thought about this aspect of it.
My c/minded children use the trampoline rarely, and when they do, I ensure I supervise it at all times and they know that only one child is allowed on at a time.
All parents are aware of this as they have a copy of my Trampoline Policy.

Yes public liability, if you are not using the trampoline to the manufacturers guidlines even with parental consent, this will void your insurance if there are any accidents involving the trampoline and the child involved is under the minimum recomended age.

Hi choccymoose i didnt know the ins and outs of them tbh as like i said we have a small one for dd but the mindees do not use..all i know is our neighbour has around 5 kids on hers and i just cringe watching!! shes not a CM though so i guess each to their own!
I remember an email coming round r.e use of them and thought there was more needed than public liability but maybe it was just another measure of cover for us..i'm not sure..

My wife is a childminder and I just showed her your post, all I could hear was a sucking in of breath and she just said this childminder sounds way too cocky to be trusted. When ofsted inspected her house did they not mention a trampoline with no net?

We have a docile cat, and even he is watched when the children are near him as you never know what the children will do to get a reaction, and our trampoline has a big safety net with working zip. You treat the kids you look after like the precious commodities they are.

My wife is unsure of the payment details as all contracts usually state 1 months notice, but if you threaten to get in touch with ofsted then she will back down in an instant if she has an ounce of sense, as ofsted can stop the childminding instantly.

Have no worries about removing your kids, it's not the dog or the trampoline that's the problem here, it's a childminder who see's your kids as cash cows.

    A very belated outcome.
paid childminder for weeks worked up until day I had to stop sending my children to her. She has ignored me ever since. It was reported by local Family Info Service to Ofsted who I contacted for feedback but they didn't get back to me.
She continued to childmind 2 older children after school whose mum I told of the incident.
She also got a job at the nursery where my youngest attended! I didn't tell them about her as I figured she would be supervised.
I reduced my working hours and no longer need childcare!
  • Glad you got it sorted-kind of, I think I would ask at nursery she wasn't around my child and explain why.

I used to be a childminder (my dog was never in the same room as children as I know she gets hyper).

I totally understand why childminders have contract etc, but then I went back to work and used a childminder she took my son to nursery without a coat on 14th feb (a thursday cold and rainy) 2008, my oh picked him up and he had to walk home in the rain-they never went back. I told her I she wasn't protecting my children reported her to OFSTED, she said contract-you owe me-blah-blah-I said go ahead sue me-you didn't take adequate care, nothing ever happened. I think some childminders think because they have a contract they can do what they like!
  • It is a shame for those childminders who take it seriously, it's like my one did in a weird way she thought she was competent, more ignorant in my opinion. My youngest starts school next week and I am able to collect him due to reducing working hours, hooray, no more childcare!
(no offense to those of you who are good at what you do as there are many of course who are).
  • Hi

I am a childminder with a lurcher..as part of my registration I have to keep the dog seperate from the children at minding times. Even though my dog is docile he does sometimes get excited, its also to protect him with the kids as they would be using him as a horse ;)

The trampoline worry : I did have a trampoline, but would only let the older ones on due to insurance etc. I did let my own daughter on it and she was on her own but fell awkwardly and fractured the bone just under the knee, the next day it went as I'd be mortified if a minded child hurt themselves that way too.

To the other person that said about us childminders thinking that we only have contracts so think we can do what we like..well they are there to safeguard us as well from parents who do not pay.!!

OP, in your case you did the right thing pulling your child out.
Can't think of anything funny to put here!
