No response from moderators (although they could be &rsed to move the thread, responding to a detailed and reasonable request for clarification is below them).

Shame. My death by a thousand cuts thought has been given more credence.

    1. We don't have moderators. We have an abuse team and board guides who are volunteers.

    2. The threads are moved here because those are the rules - if people are discussing the operations of the forum they come to the forum policy board.

    3. There is no response because we ask board guides to do this and use the standardised form of words. This is because they are following standardised rules.

    4. If you feel a thread has been moved incorrectly (which in this case it certainly hasn't - its been moved absolutely correctly) then the best thing to do - as always - is email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com which as Im sure you know is my professional team who can look at it.

    5. If you have a question about site policy. The best place to put it is in the "this site" board. That way the people who make the policies (ie my team and I) can take a look. For example if you believe political threads are being moved when they should stay in a forum; then a politely expressed argument with examples is the best way to get things changed (doesn't mean we'll agree, but it certainly will be looked at).

    Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for the response as it clarifies things.

My experience of other well run BBs is that some discussion of forum policy within the forum is expected and even encouraged as it allows the people involved in the board from all sides, non-moderators (sorry, not sure what to call the people who actually remove or move threads/posts), posters, your team and board guides, to discuss in the place where they are regularly what should and shouldn't be allowed.

One of the great strengths of this and other well run BBs is the level of communication between people with different inputs into the whole site - your emails would be poorer for not having posters come up with suggestions for money saving ideas for example. Similarly, things you post provoke a lot of discussion.

If threads about specific parts of the site are moved from that part of the site then most of the people that are interested would miss it. For example, I think this is the first time I've posted on this forum despite having made thousands of posts.

All well and good, but im afraid even if all the well educated people in a board post about a change wanted, then its completely irrelevant. Not their views but where its posted.

There are 40 paperback books written every day on this forum, the MSE towers team and i can't even read 1% of them. We don't see most threads. Yet we do monitor these boards - as they're here for exactly that.

The reason you got a response from me is because the thread is here! And as we make the rules, if people want change, this is the best play to suggest it.

I take your point and thank you for spending your time on this.

I suggest that boards which have a lot of threads being moved away (and that is certainly true of the House Prices... board) have a temporary sticky thread, perhaps linked to this board (although the latter part could only be done practically when larger changes were being made to the board, presumably) so problems can be discussed in an isolated way and points can be made in a pertinent place without dragging the whole board off topic.

I guess the analogy would be when threads about possible house price falls were placed into a sticky thread on the moving houses board.

Im never a fan of stickies unless we can help it... perhaps the answer is to get people to use a one or two hour redirect. Though we're looking at forum design and navigation at the moment which may help that.

Stickies do tend to tie up the top of page1 of a board which is all many (most?) people look at. The holiday boards are a good example of being overrun by stickies. All are undeniably useful but added together they mess up the board a little.

What's "a one or two hour redirect" please?
