  • very new here although been lurking for some time. We have bitten the bullet and to-day is sending out letters and cancelling DD day. Quite nervous about this as we have never sone anything like this before but do have a huge (and I really mean huge) pile of debt which will never go away unless we grasp the nettle. We wouldn't have done this but for the MSE and CCCs so here goes and please be there for the inevitable pile of questions

Hello and welcome dopey, firstly, well done on starting your debt free journey . Myself and oh also have HUGE  debts and have just started cccs dmp, the letters have gone out in the last week and cccs are sending out the proposals today so now we just have to wait and see. Good luck with everything and if you have any questions just ask I am sure one of the lovely people on here will be able to answer.

    Hi Ian,
I could'nt speak to them yesterday when they were ringing the home number as halifax cc is oh's account so they would'nt discuss it with me anyway, but oh did speak to them (again )as they were also ringing him on his work mobile number. They managed to squeeze another token payment out of him (he already made one last week when he spoke to them) but he just wanted to get rid of them because he was at work. I told him he should'nt have done that. He did tell them to stop phoning or he will report them for harrassment so lets hope that works. They have now been given the cccs ref number 4 times but don't seem to be listening, they have also had the dmp notification letter with the ref on it. I don't know what more we can do.

Unfortunately that won't help as they'll ask why you can't pay more if you managed to pay an extra token payment.

I have three different accounts with Halifax (Sainsburys, IF & Halifax) and they were always pretty good. Firm, but fair. They've since all passed over to Blair Oliver & Scott. Have they stated that they haven't had contact from CCCS? It maybe they need to resend the LoA and I&E?

Hi again, cccs sending off the proposals today, but we have sent the dmp notification letter and spoke to them at least 3 times to explain situation and each time cccs ref given. We also have a joint halifax bank account but they have been ok, I rang them once to explain, gave them ref number and made token payment and they have'nt bothered us since (although I have a feeling they will be back in touch as soon as they receive the proposal from cccs!!!!)

Just want to say thank goodness I`m on the dmp and never went down the iva route.

Been back at work 2 days after sick leave to be told I`m facing redundancy. Its not officially final but you can tell its pretty much decided. Plus OH is self employed and lost his main income so have managed to ring CCCS and gone through review to make sure rent, council tax, etc are at least fully covered until I`m officially redundant. :o

But my debt free date has gone from 3.5 years to over 14! Here`s hoping it`s temporary and one or other of us find a job quickly!

  • Hi there - hope you're all well and that your 2010s have gotten off to a fab start!

I have been on my DMP for 4 months now and so far so good...on the whole. Most creditors have frozen interest, a couple have only reduced and only 1 isn't doing anything at all...am hoping that in a wee while (once they've received some more payments from me) they might reconsider...

I would appreciate some advice though. I am with the CCCS and I was on the phone to them the other day (ongoing saga to do with a creditor seemingly not receiving the payments CCCS are sending them) and I mentioned that I have been finding the monthly payments quite a struggle (I am paying them over £1400 a month - am lucky as have a good job with a decent salary and as have no kids am able to whack a lot at the DMP). The lady was very sweet and said that looking at my budget and the high payment amount there were actually a few things that hadn't been taken into account first time round and in fact they could probably reduce my payment by a bit - which would certainly help me as there have been quite a few months ends where I've been getting seriously desperate and raiding my mum's store cupboard for food!

However - I'm only 4 months in and am really worried about what creditors will say/do about getting a reduced payment so soon. I really don't want to rock the boat as everything seems to have settled down and I'm not getting calls or letters - just my normal monthly statements showing, for the first time in years, that my debt is actually going down - YIPPEEE! So, as you can guess I'm really not keen to give them any reason to start adding interest again, or even refuse the payment full stop. In fact all of my creditors are getting very close to the contractual payment anyway at the moment, so I imagine are pretty happy?

Has anyone got any experience of reducing their DMP payment so soon into it? What did your creditors do? Any advice about this would be really gratefully received. Thank you all v v v much in advance!

Hope you're all having a happy Wednesday!

Usually 6 months in CCCS do a review precisely for this reason to check that your budget is working. If your struggling then re-adjust your budget and explain to your creditors that your budget was too tight and you need to adjust it I'm sure they'll be fine.

    DILEMA - Help please!

have got a letter from my mortgage provider (currently on a fixed rate of 4.74% until Jan 2011) offering to extend our fixed rate until 28/02/2015..., no cedit check or anything just fill in forms and all done... We have until 5th Feb to make our decision.

Do we do this of take the risk & go onto a variable rate (currently 4.24%) so we would be about £50 better off..... but would be variable rate.

The dilema is, if we let the fixed rate end we would have £50 more to pay to our DMP - pay off sooner. BUT the rate may go up (or down) - do not like the uncertainty.

Or extend the fixed rate - but we want to move house (cannot at moment as we are in negative equity) which make me think we cannot move at the moment or in the near future so would be better with the security of a fixed rate.

Help please - to extend the fixed rate OR Not.....

    Thanks

It's scary but make sure you spend an hour and get all the Notification letters done, in envelopes and put stamps on them and then post them asap!

my DW and I went through this back in November/December and started our DMP this month with CCCS.

I'm keeping a blog of events as tehy unfold so feel free to have a read of that (the link is in my signature).

Good luck and keep us all posted!

    Cheers,

Proud to [STRIKE]be dealing[/STRIKE] have dealt with my debts
  • It's my LBM Anniversary:T:T

1 year ago today it was payday and I finally realised that I couldn't continue with burying my head in the sand. Our wages had gone in and we didn't have enough money to pay all the bills including our mortgage etc and eat. We had also run out of credit, then main source of funding the shortfall for a long long time.

So I told DH the truth and the amount of debt we were in (82K  I had managed to hide it for years), lets say that was one of the hardest conversation that I've had in my life and at time I thought he was going to leave.

But 1 year on were happily married, debts have reduced by £8k only owing £74k now :D. We've been paid today and I have money to feed us comfortably, take the kids to the cinema on Sat and buy them new shoes. No CC bills to worry about post Christmas which is a really really good feeling and will manage to squirrel away some money for a rainy day.

Yes in the beginning it was traumatic with calls & letters etc but it soon stopped, we don't have credit, but with budgeting you don't need it. We have a home which is full of fun and imaginative ways of entertaining ourselves cheaply;). And for the 1st time this year we're planning a holiday without credit (somewhere cheap and cheerful, and funded by me ebay sales and money I get for sometimes helping out my neighbour with her ironing.)

    Take Care
