  • Hey Twit Head! Glad to hear the back is much better!
Like you, I'm sort of dreading Christmas, OH is due a back-dated payrise (about £300) which we were hoping to get end Nov. Now it looks like the New Year so I might have to borrow funds from my Dad. I really hate to ask him, and I pay back every penny he ever lent me, but with 13 neices and nephews, all wee kids, I can't see any other way. I'm just relieved that we entertained the in laws last year and it's not our turn! Isn't that bad?
I would love to hear if anyone has had any brainwaves re; Xmas, certainly can't jeopardise the DMP so early in!

Hi tooth fairy, not sure if anyone has answered but ... this year I was going to spend about a fiver each on all my many nephews and nieces and make them all welly boot pegs, just bought a pack of wooden pegs and waiting for wooden cut outs to come from e-bay and just a little time, glue and paint then hopefully hey presto!

I must admit I have most of the pressies bought them in the sales for less that half price, but if you find a cheap book shop they usually have some fab books for only a few pounds.

Hope this helps and good luck xx

  • Hello everyone!

As with any other day ther have been good points and bad points to this day!

    The Good:
My first payment shows up today on the CCCS Website in my DMP area :j:j:j . I also went and got a pack of 20 littlest pet shop toys for my middle daughters birthday - she'll be 4 next week. She loves those things and they were reduced by £10. Can't wait to see her face when she gets them

    The Bad:
I have started getting texts from a company called SRJ, I have no idea who they are or what they want - I read somewhere they are connected with Fredrickson Int so I wonder if Fred have passed our Tesco card debt to them and we just haven't got the letter yet. In which case I don't know if CCCS sending our payment to Fredrickson will be pointless  I assume if that's the case Fred will tell them though, or I will receive a letter from these SRJ folk.

    The Ugly:
Major fight with OH. We've been together since I was 18, 8 long years ago....we don't generally fight but my goodness we went for it today! I gave him back his engagement ring and everything.

I'm taking a moment on here with my fellow DMPers to just take some time out and chill, before I explode with stress!

I hope everything is goin well with you lot. Won't be long now and you'll be seeing your first payments in too!

Just catching up on posts, hope all is ok with you and OH. It's really cr%p when things at home just arn't going well. Take care xx

  • Hello everyone!

Had a busy weekend so not been around much, just been reading up on everyones posts! Would take me forever to respond to you all individually, but a huge thank you to everyone who posted wishing support to us newbies. I am sure I speak for us all when I say it is hugely appreciated. As you all know these times are difficult, so many changes happening, strain on relationships, hassle from creditors - it's all go! You guys that have been here before and take the time to come and assure us it can be survived are like our heroes right now! Our time will come - we'll look back on all the stress of living in debt, setting up the DMP - and we'll be so glad we did. Until then....we'll all hang in there!

Not much to report over my way - because of postal strikes no creditor letters for a few days. :T Still waiting on new bank details to change DDs, wages etc. Really should phone and ask for details - but just been a liitle guilty of hiding from it all again! I will do it tomorrow - I did so badly need a break. especially after giving OH his engagement ring back because he dared to forget the ravioli was on the cooker and burned it thus wasting a days meal throwing out the whole meal plan for the week. I felt like the world came crashing down, and I knew I had to take a time out. :rotfl:

I hope things are going well for everyone, and that you've all had a good weekend xx
I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.

  • Hi Everyone :hello:
Good to hear those ideas for cheap Christmas presents! Thx for those!
LMS.....good to hear you had a bit of time out, we all need that, the little things can get on top of us so easily, my OH blames me all the time for being too tense.....thing is though, is that I'm the one who is doing all the paper work/phone calls/DD cancelling/DD setting up/atm visits/bank visits etc on top of my usual duties........so of course I'm tense!!!

This will make you laugh.........my first payment into my brand new account is due in tomorrow.....or rather today as its now 00.44! I was so worried that something wouldnt work as its a new account I waited until midnight to log into my new account to check that this payment went in LOL....then it wouldnt accept my password, forgot the caps lock was on, then it timed me out.......I was getting nervous at this point....then I got in and was SOOOOOOOOOOO RELIEVED to see a bit of money in there safe and sound!!

A bit more due in next week......no doubt I will do the same again LOL, then my wages later on in the month...fingers crossed eh!

At least no one can touch it now. I can choose which bill I pay with it.
It is a great feeling and I have to say I feel a whole lot better now than I did on Friday when I was panicking about those failed direct debits and money being taken. Phew!

One hurdle over with.........we all now there is a storm brewing with the postal strikes and some of us waiting to hear from the creditors about our new DMPs....but as LittleMissSkint said, ditto from me too, thank you so much for all the support and we do really appreciate it.

  • Hi all,

I hardly slept last night knowing that my Natwest loan wouldn't be paid today :(

My first payment goes to Payplan on 25th Nov and they have contacted all my creditors who have confirmed correct balances so I'm just waiting...waiting...waiting.

I've never not paid anything, it was just becoming too much to afford it all, so I'm cr*apping myself this morning - it's a really weird feeling.

Can someone tell me what's the worst that could happen?

Thank you - I want my Mum :(

Just checked my last MBNA statement and they charged £12 for a late payment which then doubled with a further £12 for an overlimit charge......can I query that and get a refund? How do I go about doing that, there are other double charges on other accounts from previous months.
Also if you have £12 late payment fee and £12 overlimit fee on one statement it means they charged too much. I think the standard charge of £12 is accepted but not 2 x £12 in the same month if that makes sense?

Look I best stop as your head is going to blow off with all this info, you'll fall asleep under all those statements tonight and it will be my fault! :D

Anyway I'm off to bed, hope you are too soon don't rack the brain too much with paperwork as I'm quite sure you children won't fully understand the meaning of a lie in tomorrow morning!

If you need a hand give me a shout, I might not post every day but I do read the thread.

    Take care xxx
  • Hi Everyone. I have been reading your posts on this thread for many months and have now been brave enough to post on here myself. I need some advice please. We have just started a DMP with CCCS after doing their debt remedy on line. I have sent all of the DMP letters and a £2 token payment to our 12 creditors and am now waiting for the onslaught of telephone calls, letters etc. Our DMP won't be starting until Jan 10 as am waiting to get all of the paperwork together to send to CCCS and not sure how long it will take to get there cos of the postal strikes. We have changed our telephone number at the weekend as Egg called 6 times on Fri and Sat up until 8.30 at night probably because I cancelled the DD and the kids were wondering why I didnt answer the phone. Now everytime my mobile rings and my phone at working rings I feel sick and want to hide underneath my desk. Can anyone tell me if it is best to speak to the Creditors and tell them that we are starting a DMP or is it best to ignore them. All I seem to be thinking about at the moment is being in debt and when I do manage to sleep thats all I dream about as well. Please help!

Confused - I can relate to that sick feeling ! This week is when we start missing payments and the token payments will be going out. (We were going to go into town and do it today, but DH is ill this morning - not related to the money issues - and so it will have to wait until either Friday or Monday now, as that's the soonest he can go into town again because of work commitments. We usually have everything on direct debit, so this is a bit unnerving!

Funny though. We just got a letter today from Halifax re our credit card. We were bricking it, thinking that it was a "you've missed your payment, you are in big trouble now" type of letter and all it said was "you've cancelled your direct debit, please make sure you don't forget to make alternative payment arrangements." LOL

    Hi Totally,

I went through the same emotions a couple of weeks back. Some advice I was given was to ignore them but then the DCAs started calling and as you say Egg are particularly persistant. The case worker at Payplan said all I needed to do is tell them I am working with Payplan and that should help. I have spoken to all of them now and sent the Hold Action Letters see National Debtline website.
plus follow ups to remind them that adding interest and charges was not helping the situation. I also gave them my Payplan reference number and it has all gone quiet. Lull before the storm perhaps?

Worst calls were the ones from someone purporting to represent MBNA offering a secured loan. I checked out the company they suggested and it was basically a high risk lender with a huge interest rate. They like kicking you when you are down!

You can actually demand they stop the phone calls by writing to them, I suggest you do that especially if they are calling at work. If the phone calls start up again that is certainly what I shall be doing.

Sample letter is available on post 4 in the sample letters on this website.:

Anyway I am slightly ahead on the journey to a debt free life but only just, hope it all works out for you too.

3 months into DMP and the only creditor giving us grief has been Barclays (loan, O/D and CC). Turns out payplan hadn't gone ahead and informed them because of some admin glitch so assume they have informed them now. Mercers have been calling every day, 2-4 times a day but seem to have given up. But today got a doorstep collector from Scotcall for the Barclaycard debt.

Quite funny really. He buzzed the intercom and said he had a letter for my partner. So I said, great - why are you ringing the buzzer? He asked to come in to post the letter and I duly informed him of the rectangular device in the middle of the front door directly in front of him, traditionally used for exactly this purpose.

What was he wanting to come in for though?!!!!! Do you think he had papers to serve or something? He just left a card saying to call Scotcall immediately.

Think I should send follow-up letters to Barclays just re-iterating that we are with payplan now, and hopefully that will help.

Anyone had any dealings with Scotcall?
