    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone had anything positive to say about Citi cards? I were aware from CCCS that they werent accepting my reduced payment but have been paying anyway but for the last week I have had a call from them once a day asking me to call back, I presume this is to discuss. Happy to do this and tell them to contact CCCS again, but what annoys me is I'm expected to call an 0870 number and get put on hold for longer than 5 mins (i gave up after this). Dont they know I'm trying to save money:mad:

So I've written to them today asking them to write to me if it is so urgent and re-consider the offer, it will be going up from Oct anyway.

As they have annoyed me is it worth sending a CCA request???

Sorry to bump but any thoughts/experiences on Alliance & Leicester/MBNA and DMP's? I know from reading around they're b*ggers but have had horrible evening after the phone conversation tonight and was going to ring HSBC tomorrow to do the same thing (I've been spacing the calls out!) but frankly now don't want to talk to any of them on the phone again. M & S and Post Office so far were great.

Just remembered some more of the conversation now - after all the interrogation about how I'd used my card, she said that if I kept up £72 per month payment (a lot less than the minimum I was on!) they would keep the account open for 10 years - which I've worked out is how long it would take to pay it all off, just under £9000. I said at the time Payplan would work the payments out but after I got off the phone I worked it out that I would be paying eighty odd pounds with PP anyway. What did all that mean exactly?

Just catching up with posts so someone might have already been along to answer the MBNA bit. Yes they are not the best to start with. Their customer service is just plain bullying. If you can record any calls or note times and dates and write down as verbatum as you can what was said and the tone in which you were spoken to then write them a lovely complaint letter and the financial hardship spin and then get them to accept. Fingers crossed

They were great with me in the end and the easiest by far along with Lloyds

I've got a question. Having surrendered a life assurance policy to which we've been paying over the odds for twelve years and switched to a cheaper provider (god bless your advice, Mr Lewis  ), we're due a couple of thousand quid. Now, as we've got no access to credit any more, and we have some major, unavoidable expenditure on the horizon, is it OK within the terms of a DMP to hang on to it?

After the major expense we'd have about £500 left, which we want to keep for a rainy day - again, is there a ceiling on savings you can legit have under a DMP, or is it best just to keep a bit shtum?

    Hi snowymalone
Whoever is managing your DMP need only know what you choose to let on;)
We have also been lucky enough to keep hold of a bit of spare cash which has really helped on a couple of occasions (car repairs etc) and has meant we haven't yet had to reduce our DMP payments.

NOT A PEEP from 3rd (the one with the largest amount.)

Huh - spoke too soon yesterday!!! :o Just got back from very, very long, hard day to letter from Capital One. Start debt £7,300 but they are adding default charge of £12.00 and increasing the interest from 14.9% to 24% per month (approx £135.00 per month and rising:eek:) I'm on a low income so can only afford to pay £49-00 per month-the largest amount to my 3 creditors.
I have been keeping to my very restricted budget and trying so hard to be optimistic. My original DMP finish date was approx 19 years but at this rate even I lived to be 1001 I could still have a HUGE debt (and I'm probably old enough to your mother now!)
Will write a 'please reconsider, drop interest charges and be nice to me letter' tomorrow but at the moment feeling like 'what is the point?'
Sorry to be negative but feeling so down at the moment. Like many before me we are trying our best to repay, so please show some compassion-yes we owe the money but usually through misfortune not wilful overspending.
To anyone contemplating a DMP please don't let my mournful bleatings put you off-it is the right way to go.
Hey,hey and I've had NO phone calls :T Got to make me feel better!
A good weekend to all and thanks for your company and support.

  • I have been away for a couple of weeks after sending out the notification letters, and came back expecting a deluge of letters and phone messages. So far no messages. One acceptance of the DMP from Next, also agreeing to stop the interest for 6 months. Statements showing objections to the reduced payment and a letter from Egg threatening a default notice if I don't make a payment in the next couple of days. It is strangely quiet! I assume if Next has been contacted all the others have as well - I wonder how long it will take the others to respond. Do they contact me regarding CCCS's approach, or otherwise how do I know that they are satisfied with the proposal?

  • In my experience it depends on the individual creditors. Some are really quick off the mark and as helpful as can be, others just keep phoning / writing and in some cases claim never to have even heard of CCCS / Payplan / whoever. Best advice is sit tight, and after CCCS have made their initial couple of payments everything seems to just calm down.

We've still got one creditor who's being a pain in the proverbial, we wrote to them, got no reply, but having on advice from this place emailed their Customer Services Manager directly that's all gone quiet too for the moment :).

I know it's a bit nerve-wracking for a few weeks, but keep calm, and remember you've done 1000% the right thing :T.

Hi all filled out my dmp notification forms today, put reason for dmp down as
'reduced income and increased expenditure leading to over commitment of debts'
Hope that will be ok! Also enclosed a lovely little letter saying chq enclosed for £1 to contribute to any payments due prior to dmp being set up and asking that with immediate effect they only contact me in writing either by post to the above address or by e-mail. Requested they forward an e-mail address to me so I am able to reply quickly.

I've signed all the DMP paperwork and letter with my signature but added an extra line so I will know if they've copied it!!

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

Been very quiet hope you've all been enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

Thanks JOJ. I scrupulously log all phone calls and letters, both made and received, and make notes on any conversation I've had and take names etc. I never thought of taking it to a complaint so will await any follow up and go from there! The female also expressed how disappointed she was I hadn't arranged a payment plan with them, I recall now - ("you could have come to us, but I see you've gone to Payplan . . .") .

JoJoB, glad your husband's PP interview went well. And Muddlemess, I hope it goes through ok for you. What you've done so far sounds very efficient! I didn't know what to do about my signature so just left it off altogether, though now wish I'd just signed differently. I felt incredibly relieved after my int last week then the rotten MBNA phone call prompted another "God what have I started?" moment, where it's really brought home to me there is no going back now. But this is so much better than the horrible uncertainty of two months ago where I really didn't know what was going to happen to me. I can't believe how far I've come now! It's so helpful following everyone else's progress on here, and glad to see so many going well.

Re: the PPI claiming, I'm not sure what claim I've got really - most of my applications I can remember involved ticking a box on the application form saying "Yes, I do want Payment Protection", thinking, "Well, it'll be useful if something happens and I can't keep up the payments, ironic as that is now). But will continue reading and reasearching.

I'm about to cancel my all PPI's for starters anyway, does this sound right?

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Ref: Account xxxxxxxxxxxx

I am writing to inform you that I wish to cancel the Payment Protection scheme on my credit card, ref: account number above. Please could you ensure that this is terminated immediately, and I would appreciate it if this is acknowledged in writing.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Yours faithfully,
