Bit confused about this term.Does it mean you must be their customer asin pay them for providing calls or/and broadband?
I'm nearing the end of my contract with talktalk &(fed-up with constant evening disconnections)am looking around for reliable phone/broadband (low user on both)but this term crops up & I'm unsure if I have to return to BT before I can go elsewhere.Thanks.

If you're with TalkTalk you do not have a BT line.

If you do return to BT, the minimum contract period is 12 months before you can then transfer elsewhere. You won't be able to transfer from TalkTalk direct to another company other than BT.

    Con? Entirely.

Do you mean disconnections with your broadband, or both telephone and broadband? If it's just the broadband, it's quite possible that you are on the wrong profile. If you go onto the talktalk members forums, complete the questionnaire, then wait a few days for a response, they will diagnose your connection and optimize your connection. I'm in the process of doing that at the moment.

If you're with TalkTalk and your line is fully unbundled, then you need to go back to BT first - there isn't much regulation in terms of LLU lines of other providers.

If you want to migrate an LLU broadband connection you would need to pay £40 or probably be stuck in a long contract.

Though saying all this, you can keep your phone line at TalkTalk and just migrate your broadband service away...

You do not have to go to BT retail for a BT line from Talktalk. Any provider should be able to do it: usual story too much trouble for most of them.
Phone Co-op for example will do it - http://www.thephone.coop/residential/linerental/installreconnect.html "If your line has been converted to another network (usually Talk Talk) then an "LLU conversion" fee of £39.15 may apply.".

I'm not clear if the OP has calls and line rental with TT, or just calls?

Thanks for the response guys. I pay talktalk calls/broadband/line rental.I thought talktalk paid BT for the use of line , that's why I'm a little unsure to whom the line belongs to & I was hoping it was still a BT line so I could cherry pick a new package provider if the evening broadband doesn't improve(phone line is good) .
I do go through the checklist etc when I get disconnected but it can happen every few seconds some evenings ,then after 8ish back to normal.Given up on techies(lol) phone advice.Thursday they wanted me to dismantle mastersocket,I refused, next day perfect line. Once again ,thanks x.
ps I thought if I interferred with mastersoket(BT installed) I could be held responsibe for any damage etc.in the future.

What they have asked you to do is just to plug your line into the BT test socket, which is behind the master socket faceplate. All this involves is removing two screws-no dismantling. This isolates all your internal wiring. If the fault is then still present, the problem is upstream of the master socket, so it will then be sorted out by TT and OpenReach at their expense. But if it is still present, it could be a problem with your own wiring, which is your responsibilty.
They won't want to pay OpenReach to come out until they have established, with your assistance, that it is not an internal fault.

Simple way to find out. Dial 17070. If you get nothing other than "This circuit is defined as <your phone number>" and then get cut off, you're LLU. If you then get a message welcoming you to "BT line test facilities" you're on a BT line.

Thanks for reminder Lee. Before I reported disconnections wednesday evening, I'd done 17070 check, got crackles.Called phone techies tell them. They call back to my mobile as got cut off.Swapped filters/phone etc. "can you see two screws ...":rotfl:.They call next day to let me know fault was corrected(knew that about 3hrs earlier as done 17070 again)
Will try poker tonight see if disconnections re-occur.Bettor not:p. XX.Irony
