In Need of New Sat Nav

After being badly let down by our TomTom sat nav today when we needed it to take our daughter to Sheffield Childrens Hospital, it has now been sent flying by hubby (mainly because the maps are out of date I think but then also sent told to go one way and then told that we had taken a wrong turn when we hadn't.

So, I have heard that the Road Angel get free map updates that is downloaded from their website. Is this correct or can anyone advise. We don't have that much to spend on one due to us having to spend over £1k on medical equipment for our daughter. Probably about £150.

Sorry, but this sounds like out of date maps and user error.

Retrieve your TomTom, assuming your hot-headed hubby hasn't broken it, go onto TomTom Home, buy a map update and try again.

Forget Road Angel - they've stopped doing SatNavs - just speed camera stuff now.

I think someone said it's somewhere in the region of £50 to update TomTom's maps so well within you budget.

Was that a flying sat nav I saw?

£50 gets you an updated map every 3 months for a year.

That's interesting about £50 getting you an updated map every three years.

Unfortunately the Sat Nav had indeed gone to satalite heaven. Knew I should have driven.

What would someone suggest as a replacement.

Edit Yes quite right 3 months. Being at the hospital all day has dulled the brain.

I read it as an update every 3 months for a year.

This link will help you compare prices !! Tomtom and garmin are regarded as the better makes beware of buying other makes because they are cheaper!!
If you just need a UK map one the Tomtom 520 is an old model but will do the job !!
Which one you pick make sure it contains the latest map guarantee which lasts for 30 days or you can buy at some retailers and on some models will have a years free worth of updates and do not forget John Lewis will price match any shop

£82.95 for those of us in the UK

Having owned numerous brands of SatNavs however, Garmin ones tend to tell you to turn far too early. If you are in a town, you WILL take the wrong turn quite often.

Road Angel still have some sat navs available but they are truly awful.

I won a Road Angel 7000 at work and it really is the worst satnav ever. Even my spare Garmin i3 is 100 times better. As an example I drove from Kent to North Wales, and the Road Angel finally picked up a satellite signal near the Welsh border after 4-5 hours of driving.
