I see a lot of posts condemning the way football is now money obsessed, but let's face it - the reason more people watch the Premier League rather than, say, the Scottish 3rd Division is because the football is much better. Take away the money and you take away the great players and you are left with a shell that only die hards are interested in.
Of course, the caveat to that is that the debt that clubs are built on has to be sustainable. If one of the big four finish out of the top four, they could be in big trouble. You could see more middle easterners playing Football Manager 2009 with more than just Man City.0 -

There's always been great players in our league without the obsene amounts of money being involved now. How can it be right that a 17 year old reserve team player of a premiership club will command £50k a year, without having a single first team appearance?
In some respects Sky helped boost and develop the English league in the early nineties and made it fashionable across Europe and the rest of the world. However its gone too far now and too much money is involved.
Up until maybe 15 years ago, the average fan could relate to their heroes on the pitch. But now, how can you possibly have anything in common with someone who demands £30k a week and would probably do a bunk at the hint of earning more?
When football suffers for the pursuit of money then you know things have to change. I think football reached that point about 5 years ago.

I used to love watching Ipswich Town in my early supporting years and only paid 50p for the pleasure. The good thing was in those days that even the small clubs could build a great team with little money and a great manager. Now you will never have small teams challenging for the league title, it is such a shame.0 -

Yup. Ipswich winning the FA Cup in 1978(?), Cloughie leading Derby County and Notts Forrest to First Division titles (and European Cup success).
Soccer is boring these days. Man Yoo or Chelski to win. Perhaps Liverpool or The !!!! to challenge in a good year. It's like Scotland only without the violence.0 -

Speaking as a Chelsea fan it never ceases to amaze me how much the media make of Chelsea's supposed indebtedness whereas Arsenal/Manyoo/Liverpool's much more dangerous positions debtwise seem to be largely ignored
Chelsea pay no interest at all on their debt to Roman Abramovitch, and half the £650m loan has been converted to equity, the outstanding loan is also payable to the owner of the club (he cant beat himself up if he dosnt pay it back) a totally different situation to the one the other clubs face, where banks want their monthly interest payments or else each month :-)0 -
Surely as a CFC fan you cannot really be amazed at the media's hostility to the club? It's been a fact of life for decades, since way before Abramovich. It's largely down to Ken Bates, I think, but RA's arrival has worsened it.Speaking as a Chelsea fan it never ceases to amaze me how much the media make of Chelsea's supposed indebtedness whereas Arsenal/Manyoo/Liverpool's much more dangerous positions debtwise seem to be largely ignored
It's laughable how Liverpool fans think that there's a buyer just waiting in the wings if the US owners default on their loan, whereas they confidently predict any decision by RA to 'just walk away' when he 'gets bored' would mean instant closure for Chelsea.0 -
