Yes I'm sure there was an official report published this week stating that the English Premier League Clubs own a collective debt of £3bn (billion)...but the "Top 4" clubs owed £2bn of that £3bn. Which is even more obscene

What was also interesting was looking at the top 5 of indebted clubs, the big 4 were 4 of them. The other being Newcastle (lord knows what'll happen there now!)

The funny thing is it mirrors any other business look at some of the mad company buyouts pre 2008 and the debt that as been accrued to secure the purchases.

For some reason big business seems to be big debt this day and age. Future worth seems to be the plan but if you cant get past the first few years future worth is irrelevant.

As for Chelsea you can only hope he starts to prefer womens beach vollyball and losses all intrest chelsea :)

For my money, Everton are running as a model to aspirational clubs. There could well be a time soon where the big 4 cease to be the big 4. The concern is, with most of their debts being based on regular champions league qualification, what happens to them when they don't qualify?

It also sends a message out to the newly promoted clubs in respect of throwing money at it & chasing the dream.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Not sure I agree with this. They're not exactly friends with each other, so difficult to tell. And I'd expect any potential buyer to play a real hard game of hardball to purchase Liverpool with the state they're currently in.

The club made a £40m profit(I am sue that is what i saw a few weeks ago). It is the parent company that made the loss.

I think the last figures were £500M believe me if they can't refinance sheik Mohammad will buy it. He is a life long fan:)

£300M for the club = debt free. H&G use the £300m to clear debt.

Like it or not liverpool will not go bust.

Man U are a worse purchase on paper as they are not profitable

Man Yoo have a particularly nasty bit of debt in the wings known as a PIK (Payment in Kind) Bond. It pays no interest - the interest is added into the principal sum owed.

If memory serves, this pays interest at a rate slightly shy of 15% and has a first payment due in 2011, potentially at the height of economic problems for households - if someone loses their job then Sky has to go soon after.

Correct with the 1995. However they're a decent team. A well run club. They have decent players, and an excellent manager and chairman. For up and coming players, they are an attractive proposition. And, if you look at Moyes's purchases, they invariably have a resale value.

Combined with bringing through the academy prospects, they're a well run club IMO. If I were an everton fan, I'd be optimistic.

    Supporter of a "Debt4" Club?

Everton havent won a trophy since 1995 (as you correctly state), basically because they dont have access to the credit that the above clubs do. Lets not pretend money hasnt grossly disorted football over the last 10 years
