call about a free phone?

Hi,

Has anyone been asked when they would be in to receive a free mobile phone? I have just had a phone call from someone saying he would like to send me a free mobile phone no strings attached when would I be in to receive it?

Sounded a bit fishy to me.

Has anyone else had a phone call like this and if so do you know what company this is.

The words "barge pole" and "wouldn't touch with a" spring to mind.

Who were they? You wouldn't give your details (address etc) to strangers would you?

Some of these people make it sound as though they are calling from your provider when they are not. If they mention your provider/network, it's more than likely that they've just dialled your number and random, knowing that a certain prefix is allocated to a particular network, eg 07980 is Orange, 07802 is O2.

Course its genuine. Companies give stuff to people free all the time, how do they think they make a profit. I'm sure giving thousands of people tens of thousands of pounds worth of phones makes good business sense.
I mean, only today I was walking past a renault garage and they gave me a free car. Tomorrow I'm heading up to Boeing in the hopes of a free 747.

Salespeople will tell you ANYTHING to get you on a contract. Neverr give your address or details to any cold caller, it makes life so much simplier.

wow you got a free car and your right I did not give any of my details to him. They phoned me on my land line I did ask what the name of the person the phone was for and he could not give me a name for that just the owner of this phone number. I was just wondering if this was just one companies way of selling and if so who. I am glad I did not give any details out.

no strings attached - only your bank details

this one sounds so dodgy I don't reckon it's even a phone dealer - just someone phishing credit card or direct debit scams
