We usually advise going to one of the free debt charities such as CCCS or payplan rather than any fee paying company.

  • Why are you going to a solicitors for help with debt?

Well I wasn't planning to, however I came across a recommendation for this company on another money expert site.

I have spoken to 2 partners at this law firm who explained that they will initially get the debt collectors/card companies to stop harrasing me and will sue for damages due to harrasment and mental anguish. They told me that on average you get £300-£500 back in damages from the companies - but were keen to point out that this is absolutely not guaranteed. They explained that this will stop the phone calls and letters (if it doesn't then the companies are in contempt of court). They said all the compensation is paid to me and that they make their money from reclaiming legal costs and fees from the CC companies.

I asked them about the claims of some companies that they can wipe the CC debt and they said that this a bit up in the air as there is a High Court ruling going through on this issue, and until a legal decision is made it is pretty unlikely. I believe this to be true.

The partner told me that the worst that will happen is that this action will buy me some breathing space to sort my affairs out and get the threateners off my back.

I am no mug and would never pay for this service - if something is too good to be true then it is too good to be true!

However, I can't see a downside to this. Why should I do all the leg-work myself when people far more experienced and with a bit more clout than me are offering to do this at no cost to me (not even a stamp or a postal order)?

    Am I missing something?

I have recently contacted claim4refunds.com after seeing an ad on the tv. They claim they can reduce and even wipe out some credit card and loan debts without any up front fees.

All seems too good to be true. Has anyone had any experience with them? Any idea what there fees would be?

    Thanks
    Mark.

May I suggest that you read through this thread, mark, BEFORE you agree to anything with claim4refunds.com - or any other 'fee charging' company who is 'luring' in gullible members of the public with 'blanket claims' in order to line their pockets.

  • Morning everyone,

I am a newbie to the site so gentle please. I have been contacted by the company above stating that I can claim compensation and wipe my credit card because they did not get a signed agreement and therefore unlawful.
Also said that I could claim on my mortgage as the broker fee and interest was also unlawful.

Sounded like a really nice bloke and not pushy. However he said that there was a £995 fee which I could put on the card and get that wipe with the other balances.

I am confused sounds feesible and been on the site they are regulated as well. Please help with any advise as to whether this is a con or legit.

    Cheers
