Cleaning the grout between bathroom tiles!!

Hi there,

I hope someone can help. I have just redecorated my bathroom and was not in a position to get the tiling done so have just given them a spring clean. One thing I cannot seem to make nice and white is the grout between tiles - I have tried limescale remover etc but no joy. I have also tried the white grout pens to colour it in but after a few showers it wears off.

I would be grateful if anyone can advise me a of a solution.

Thanks a lot.

  • My grout had scum and staining on it and I was recommend bleach.

I bought some dettol bleach and hey presto!!! Works a treat, I spay the grout once a month now to keep it looking new.

Word of advice, keep the windows open!!!

If you make a paste out of good biological washing powder and water and then paste it on the grout. Leave it as good while then rinse off - nice white grouting!!

I bought Dettox mould & mildew remover and thats works just fab with no elbow grease! Just spray, leave & rinse. (again its made with bleach so open the windows & protect soft furnishings)

I tried making a solution of bleach & water but it wasn't as effective.

    Hi,
I put thick bleach in an old spray bottle, sprayed it on. Twenty minutes later rinsed and scrubbed it off, brilliant. Bleach was 80p a bottle!!!!
Be worth checking it on a small area just in case, and following previous posters safety advice.

  • The only thing which has worked for me is Evo-stik grout revive. You can buy it from any DIY Store and it comes in a squeezy tube. It's brilliant!

I've always used a product called Barkeeper's Friend, sold in most good hardware stores & some supermarkets. It's an absolute whizz on lots of household tasks & is a great multi-task product to have in your cupboard. It costs about £2 and lasts for ages as you don't have to use an awful lot.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I once used tip-ex as i had a few extra bottles left over from sons school days was a quick effect if you have it indoors use it,If not use a small nail brush with a bottle of thick bleach to scrub gently over grout.

read the instructions on the back of this carefully, open windows, wear mask and gloves. it works wonderfully, even removes mould on silicone, but the smell is EVIL

Once you get it clean, stop using bars of soap in the shower, only use gel or liquid soap.
