    Would you have a CRB for working at Legoland? I just thought you would have one for being in charge of children or vulnerable adults - otherwise anyone who works with the public (in a shop, bus drivers etc) would have to have one?
    I don't know: it may be the kind of work where an employer can get CRB checks done, because of the number of children who will be running around all the time. And, AFAIK, some if not all bus drivers are CRB checked.

    Although I suppose at somewhere like Legoland you might end up looking after a lost child or something - so they could do. AFAIK the only bus drivers I know to be CRB checked are ones doing school contract work? Your normal bus drivers aren't.

    I've just looked at the application form for my local bus company, and that says you will have a CRB check. Possibly they do it on the grounds that if they then want to put you on school contract work they can, without waiting for a check then.

    Wow thanks for all the reply's everyone. I guess the only route is by going to college again probably to do an evening course or something like that.

    At Legoland they do a CRB check every season to all employee's no matter which department you work in :)

    Hello there, I may be in the minority here, but when my daughter's were at preschool they had a male keyworker, he was excellent with the children (who used him mainly as a human trampoline!!) and he was a great role model for the few children there who didn't have a resident father. I don't think I would have a problem with you in a child care role, but I am not sure I would want you to be a sole carer. (for my children I mean)

    When I was running out of school childcare, I was always THRILLED to get chaps applying to work there, we needed them so badly.

    And I had a male babysitter, who was ace.

    So don't be put off, but do start by using all the contacts you've got, even friends of friends of friends who might want a sitter occasionally, or maybe to start with an extra pair of hands from time to time so you get to know both children and their parents at the same time, and they can see if they like your attitude.

    I don't have a problem with male childcare workers at all. My children go to a nursery where the manager is male. I was also considering using a male childminder for afterschool care for my son when he starts in September and the only reason I haven't is that I've taken redundancy and will work from home now.

    What would bother me more is the lack of registration. Much as it is probably a PITA, it does at least mean that an independent person has checked them out and does so regularly. And that applies whether it is a male or female doing the childcare.

    I think that there's a big difference between a properly qualified male child care worker and somebody who says "I want to babysit/childmind every so often". Sorry.

    I think with whatever childcare you are going to be using if you dont know the person beforehand (ie not a friend or family or friends teenager babysitting for you) then you need proof of qualifications, CRB and also references you can ring.

    The more qualified and experienced a person is the more you will pay in my mind children are so precious that paying a little more for that piece of mind and security when you go out is well worth it.
