Hello, in short I want to babysit/childmind every so often. I want to know how I can find someone willing to give me a chance as I have not done it before. I work at Legoland so work with kids everyday etc and just want to do it the odd evening for a little bit of extra money however small. Any advice?
Thanks, Robert

Contact your local SureStart and they will be able to help you.Mags - who loves shopping0

You could put a card ad in local shops or advertise in the local paper but you should be prepared that many people won't want to leave their children with a man.
Doing an NVQ in childcare might make things easier.0 -
I would no way leave my children in charge of someone who a) I did not know b)who hardly has any experience of looking after children c) with a man I did not know.
If you want to work with children you should contact the local college as ONW says.0 -

But not with a woman you did not know? Men can be just as good, if not better, than women at childminding!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

I quite agree but rather fewer of them are !!!!!philes.0 -
Do you know any local families? If you do, let them know that you'd be interested in babysitting and then rely on word of mouth.Signature removed for peace of mind0

The best thing to do is probably babysit for family, family friends, neighbours. People who don't know you at all are probably not going to leave their children with you unless you take some kind of short course in child care. In my area they have quite a few short courses to do child care over a year part time, maybe thats an idea?
Hope i have helped a little...0 -

How do you know? You won't know, because society's attitutes to men mean that women are never suspected of such things, so will not ever be found out. But I am sure statistics will show more infants are killed by women than men.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Contact your local council - childminders have to be registered and Ofsted approved so you cannot just set yourself up in business. You will need an enhanced CRB so speak with the experts who will be able to advise you. http://www.childcarecareers.gov.uk/
We have several males on our Childcare and Health Care courses and whilst it isn't the norm for a man to be a childminder there is nothing to stop you from being one. One persons prejudice isn't the thoughts of everyone else.Mags - who loves shopping0
