Guess which food is being described below and you could win a pair of stainless-steel-and-copper pans, together worth £110, from Marco Pierre White's White Heat range. John Lewis stocks the full collection from cookware specialist Beka.

"The name Cicero derives from the name of my genus: Cicer - apparently an ancestor of the famous Roman orator had a cleft in his nose shaped like me. I'm a good source of protein and I'm often mixed with tahini to make a tasty dip. I can be dried and split or ground into flour, but I'm a tough little thing and can take a while to cook. What am I?"

    Chickpea?

Send your answer, name, address and telephone number to WFI-What Am I?, 136-142 Bramley Road, London. W10 6SR by 23rd May.

The chickpea is grown in the Mediterranean, western Asia, Pakistan and India. The wild ancestor of domesticated chickpeas is Cicer reticulatum. As this only grows in southeast Turkey, this is the most likely locus of domestication.

I think chickpea is the right answer for the posh pans - which I'd love to win.
