And thanks for the original notification.
Yes I'll post when I find out but it won't be for a couple of weeks as I'm on holiday. Interestingly the guy who did mine said that eating Flora pro-activ worked as well as statins from the doctor at lowering cholesterol, but maybe he was just trying to get me to buy Flora. Can anyone confirm that this has worked for them?
Yes it is a !!!!! to the finger which they fill a small tube with and put on this machine that gives an instant result. They had to do mine twice though as the first didn't work or something. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0 -
Thanks op. I phoned up and booked mine for today - been there, done it, and got a plaster !!
Very pleased with my levels.
Not brilliant, but given my age and weight, and a close family member as recently annouched he has very high cholesterol, I was a bit worried.
Interestingly there was no need to starve overnight, just turn up ( after a quite unhealthy lunch !!) and have the test.
I will probably have an 'official' one done at my Doctors some time..... but it is a weight off my mind. Now just to get the weight off my body !!0 -
Dear God, my test was tricky!
I was asked if my hands were "warm". Well, no, I have poor circulation and my hands are nearly always cold. I was told to rub them together to warm them up. Then the female pharmacy assistant pricked my finger (ouch!) and wrestled for about two minutes "to get enough blood out". I could not look, as blood and needles make me queasy - I have been known to faint after a blood test at the doctor's - and the length of time she was taking really stressed me out, I was having to count my breathing to try to relax!
Then she gave up on that finger, and told me run my hands under a hot tap until they warmed up. "The water's a bit hot", she said. It wasn't hot, it was boiling and I nearly scalded myself. Then she pricked anouther finger (ouch!), wrestled again for a minute, and finally declared herself happy with the result.
I was so relieved that it was over that I didn't even worry about the 'high' reading (my 'good' cholesterol reading was also high, so apparently that makes it not so bad).
Then to cap it all, she put a plaster on my finger which ripped all the polish off my nail when I removed it.
I am not looking forward to the re-test.... :-(0 -

Sounds like you went to the same store as me!It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0 -
Had my test today and absolutely lovely pharmacist and no problems getting the sample from me.
Check the back of the leaflet given to you with your results as there is a 50p coupon for Flora Pro-active on it.0 -
I am also doing the Flora pro-active trial (great since they sent £9 for the free test!).
They said I would need to fast beforehand - tho' I didn't as Sainsburys didn't say so when I booked. But anyway that is for glucose and the trial doesn't ask for the glucose level, they don't even ask whether I fasted before the test, which the trial instructions said they would ask!0 -
.... all I need to do now is find another free test in 4 weeks, then I am quids in!0

The Sainsburys in Warrington (100 Church Street) aren't doing it, I just called, no one is trained to do it and their manager is off on maternity leave, ho hum0
