From 19 January (for 3 weeks) you can get a free cholesterol test at Sainsburys. Lots of stores are participating. You have to book an appointment with the pharmacist.

    Official MoneySavingExpert.com insert:

Thanks Victoria Meldrew for this. The offer ends 8 Feb and the test will indicate your cholesterol level, HDL, HDL/cholesterol ratio and blood glucose. You'll be required to complete a consent form before your test. To find out if any Sainsbury's are participating near you, search your nearest Sainsbury's, click the dropdown 'services' tab and tick pharmacy, then ring to book your appointment.

    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!
  • Booked - thanks OP! Be interesting to see what it says!
  • Thank you. I've booked mine.
  • Went for mine and was shocked to find how high it is - got to go to the docs now to get it sorted, so worth going for a test if you can.

How do Sainsbury's check it? Is it instant results or do you have to wait several days?

I have only had mine checked with a blood test at the Doctors.

Just as well you went. Good luck at the docs.

I'm going for mine tomorrow. I'm a bit worried now.

I guess you will then have another test. It would be interesting to know whether the results are consistent between the two. Please let us know.

And thanks for the original notification.
  • Is it a blood test or just a finger !!!!!? Ta!
  • I went for mine this morning. I didn't eat for 12 hours before and so they were also able to test for blood glucose and he even threw in a free blood pressure test! Everything was within the healthy range - phew!

He told me that they will be doing this again in 3 months, so we can all be re-tested. That is great as I've just started an exercise regime, so will be interested to see if it goes down further.

It's a finger pr!ck test. HOWEVER, it isn't just one drop of blood, they need several to fill a tiny tube, which they they use to put the blood on to the tester. It then gives you an instant result.
  • Had mine done this morning.

It was higher than it should be, but not high enough to need to make an appointment with the GP. The girl just advised making some dietary changes.

    I wasn't given a blood pressure check.
