Hi, this no. also relates to British Gas (Finance not Energy) at one point they were calling my mobile, my work and my home no. up to 10 calls per day and when I answered the line would go dead, they are on an autodialler as someone else said but do not have sufficient operators to take all the calls. I registered with BT & Pref caller service and they no longer call, you can register both home & mobile no's it does take up to 28 days..
  • Had another silent call from Halifax 08708503492 just now.
  • And another, so I have contacted BT to get the number barred and written to the Financial Ombudsman.

If anyone else has had the same problem with Halifax please email :

    complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk

And tell them what has happened to you.
  • Yet another phone call, number barring doesn't start till tomorrow.

Same story here. We've had 11 calls from HBOS since Friday night. They know our situation only too well, letters have been sent previously but they never seem to get the message. We must get dumped into a database of future calls to make, and then it's just another person calling us. Who's not read the notes, explaining this is very tiresome.

I think this number is for a general call center. There are a number of these that are not part of the bank but work under contract for a number of different companies.

I had 3 calls in 3 days despite making an agreement with Halifax in advance of going into arrears. After complaining during the third call that I had already paid what I had agreed they seem to have stoped for now.

The other problem is, even if you, like me, get them to agree in writing that they will not call you, when you next contact them, either by letter or phone, they then add your number to the auto-dialer again - I took this further and their pathetic excuse to the Ombudsman is that because I'd had written a letter to them about my revised DMP, they considered that I was then happy for them to start calling me again (even though it said on the revised DMP, no calls).

They apologised, again, and the Ombudsman didn't take it further (no suprise).

Still hasn't stopped them calling, they only have my mobile number so what I've done is made a silent mp3 on the phone and allocated their number to that and disabled the vibrate on that no. as well so unless I'm actually looking directly at my phone, I've no idea that they're calling.

  • I was getting up to ten phone calls a day asking for somebody I didn't know. I kept telling them it was the wrong number but the calls kept coming. I then asked to speak to the supervisor, Lewis. This is a company called Albion based in Leicester. He told me that they are a debt collecting agency on behalf of other banks. They have to send off a form via a spreadsheet to remove the details from their auto dialler within 24 hrs. When they call, just ask for a supervisor!!!!
  • I just had a call from 08708503492 on my home phone but it was my girlfriend that picked up. They asked for me but by the time I got to the phone (under 10 secs) they had hung up.

Don't know about you but I find that just rude.

My husband and I have been on a DMP for 6 months with CCCs. Halifax CC excepted after about 2 months but we have had no written response at all from th Halifax loan. They have phoned continuously(sp?) 7 to 8 times a day sometimes starting at 8.30am until 8.45pm. My hubby is out of the house from early morning until late at night working and the loan is in his name only so they will not speak to me. They have started to phone again after a 2 week break as i tell them off for ringing all day long. They have been calling again now for 2 days so today I ask who's calling please they said its a personal bank call from the Halifax for my hubby. I told them you know the sittuation he is on a DMP with CCCs, they said we cant talk to you about that. I said to them please dont call my number again I have asked you to contact him by writting only. He said we will keep calling until he speaks to us and asked for his mobile number (oh yea im going to give them that, so they can hassle him at work). I said no you will not call my number again I am not putting up with constant phone calls from you, if you want to contact him do it in writting. He put the phone down on me! Not had any more calls today so far.

The last time I did this we had a card through the post saying they would call at our house, made to look like they were going to visit our home but what they meant was they were going to phone call (they did'nt).
