    OP, since they're cold calling you then why dont you start asking them questions like what the guy did in the complainers hosted by dom joly or similar to the youtube video posted by cooldude

    Of, forgot. If the call is an international number it says "International Call, out of area" which is usefull as we then just kill the call.

    I'm asking for help with a phone not on how to deal with them mate. I appreciate the help though.

    I use an answerphone! .. no cold caller ever gets through that!

    If it's a friend or someone important just pick up and talk .. simple and effective ..

    I just tell them I am not interested and then put the phone on the side while they listen to some music until they get bored.

    How much does a good phone with answerphone cost? more than a dect phone?

    Your cheapest option might be to get a separate caller display unit. There is a really cheap one on Ebay - less than a fiver. :D

    You used to be able to buy a small, raher unattractive box with a display on that gave you the caler id, it just fitted between the phone socket and the phone. They were dirt cheap, although I'm not sure if you can still get them. Try freecycle maybe?
