    No it shouldnt do.
    Do you know his name even?

    I dont know my dad well at all, all I had to do was give his name as i didnt know anything else. He divorced my mum when i was a baby and mum doesnt talk about him.
    It caused no issue at all and i am sure your not alone if you dont know his name. ;)

    I haven't anything to do with my Dad either. I didn't need his date of birth and I put his last occupation down as the one that was on my birth certificate. I'm sure this isn't a rare thing so the registrar will be able to advise you.

    We had to take a utility bill with both names, our passports and also our birth certificates (non-abbreviated copy). If either of us didn't have both passport and birth certificate, we were advised that we would need to take our mothers passport and birth certificate, so worth ringing to check exactly what you'll need so you don't end up being turned away.

    OH and I were together the whole time and it lasted about 30/35 mins. The woman who looked after us was also quite funny throughout, so it wasn't uncomfortable. She asked my OH questions about me and asked that I not answer, then she asked me all the same questions. Thinks like;
    What age am I?
    What's my occupation?
    My address?
    Full name?
    Have I been married before? etc etc

    I don't know my Dad's DOB either, but I didn't need this. There wasn't really any questions about my parents as I remember, not even his address or occupation from memory.....

    It's funny as where the notice goes up, you can't access unless a member of staff buzzes you through to that area, so realistically, the only people to read notices are those also giving notice :rotfl:

    Hi you can order a Birth Cert online check here .
    I think all the stuff about parents is to check you are a UK citizen may also be more relaxed if you were born before 1983
    The Registrar needs to see documents that prove your age, nationality and identity. If you were born in the UK, provide your full birth certificate (long version) and passport. If you were born outside the UK, provide the certified copy of your birth issued by the appropriate authority of that country and your passport or national identity card;

    Someone else can purchase this for (I think) as long as they have your DOB, mothers maiden name, dad's name etc. Might be worth a phone call first......

    OH only had a photocopy of hid birth certificate and we were told it didn't matter as the registry office can access them online? We never had to provide the original and they didn't ask to see our passports either or proof of address!

    Me thinks they're a bit too laid back up here! Lol!

    I've been told I don't need my birth certificate, which is good as I have no idea where it is...

    We found registering quit efunny in our case: some of the questions can only make you smile. "has he been married previously to the best fo your knowledge?" or "is he currently married to the best of your knwoledge?" and there's me pulling a face at him and going "He better not!"

    LOL

    Joking aside, don;t worry about your dad: I haven't spoken to mine for 6 years and they did not even bat an eyelid when i said his whereabouts were unknown. The only thing was being asked if I wanted his name on the marriage certificate but you can choose to not have your dad mentioned.
