Registering tomorrow - what does it entail?

Hi
We're registering tomorrow! After thinking it wasn't going to happen we have now decided to stick to our original date (although change the venue so it's much cheaper).
So. What will happen? I know we have to take our passports and £60, but then what?
xx

When you register your intention to marry at the registry office - they will put a notice up in there (essentially these are your banns) they do this so that people can see you are getting married and for people to state any reasons why you shouldnt get married (e.g. you are already married etc etc.). As this notice goes onto the noticeboard inside the registry office then I don't think that Joe Public wanders in to look and see who is doing what.0

Do you mean you're giving notice of marriage?
If so, take along a recent utility bill too - (something with your name and address on it) You'll meet with a registrar who will ask you lots of questions, probably separate from your HTB. Usual basic info such as personal details, what you do for a living etc..then they'll ascertain whether or not your 'free to marry'. You'll need proof of a divorce (absolute) if thats applicable to you. (If you're a widow then you'll need a copy of the death certificate.) You'll need to give info about your father too, and then they'll ask you the same questions about your HTB!!! Its quite straightforward - after your HTB gives his notice you'll both sit down and they'll summarise whats been said then get you to both sign the notice, the legal document, which is then displayed for 15 clear days. If its a register office wedding thats about it....if its a civil ceremony in a licenced premise (eg Hotel etc) they may discuss the marriage ceremony, but you can also make an appointment to do this at a later date!
All of this varies from region to region, so it may be a little different for you.
hope this helps!! HelsWomen marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! Inevitably they will both be disappointed.Albert Einstein:smileyhea0 -
Wow, sounds complicated! I've noted down to take proof of address.
When you say "You'll need to give info about your father too, and then they'll ask you the same questions about your HTB" - what kind of questions? My HTB doesn't talk much about his past so I don't know all that much - sounds odd I know!0 -
As a registrar, you have a dialogue of questions to cover. They'll ask about you, name, address, DOB, your work, where you live, how long you've lived there, have you been married, how did the marriage end (if applicable), your dad - is he alive, what did he do/does for a living. They'll ask about your HTB - usually the exact same questions too, but in less detail, as they'll get all the finer details from him.Women marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! We were interviewed separately - fortunately I went first as I'm not sure I could have trusted OH to spell my proper name correctly :rotfl:.
We were only in there about 10 minutes though.
Once the notice has been published we had to go back to pick up the license or whatever it's called and send it to the registrar who was marrying us as we got married out of our local district.Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

crikey ive just spotted a problem for me.....anyone know anything about this situation...
I don't know my dad, my mum was 18 when she had me, the relationship broke down and my dad decided he couldnt handle the responsibility.
Long story short I haven't seen him since I was about 5, dont really remember much about him, don't know his date of birth, where he lives, whether hes even alive, what he does for a living etc etc.
how do you get around this?? im not willing to go looking for him, as I have moved on and decided that if he cant be bothered to find me, which would not be difficult for him to do (he knows where my grandparents live and have always lived where he could easily make contact). Is this going to cause me a problem??
