Cut your mobile phone insurance premium

I recently rang up to cancel my 3 mobile phone insurance (provided by LSG cover). I was asked why I wanted to cancel it. To which I said I thought it was too expensive and that I would rather take the risk. Immediately, the lady I spoke to offered to cut the monthly premium.

It seems they deliberately charge you more than they need to until you complain about it, at which point they are quite happy to reduce the price of the insurance.

Try it, it might just work. If they don't offer to cut the premium and you really don't want to cancel your insurance, you can always change your mind mid phone call.

Good luck!

Or just look into putting it on your house contents cover with all risks. That usuallythe cheapest option.

Insurence cover for phone is not needed. Never had any and never will.

depends what phone you have got, if its low end phone then you are right, if your phone is worth 400 quid plus then i disagree

Actually, it depends on what's written into the contract you sign, but that's another issue.

Maybe, although there are a couple of issues you should consider before claiming for a lost or damaged phone on your home contents insurance. Firstly, you will probably have to pay a policy excess of between £50 and £100 and secondly, you will have to declare the claim when you renew your home insurance, which can affect future premiums for up to five years.

Often the cheapest thing to do is actually just buy a cheap PAYG phone on the same network as your damaged or lost phone, put your old/replacement SIM card in it and make do until you're due a renewal on contract, if applicable. Alternatively just buy a second-hand phone off eBay, or even borrow and old phone from a friend.

However, if you have a new, top-end phone and are determined to take out separate insurance on it, my suggestion to threaten to cancel the policy might save you some money.
