Then if your not getting much success then consider another industry to work in until something comes up.

Think public sector, stack loads of jobs going.

Try Network Rail's website (http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/1070.aspx), hundreds of jobs added every week, everything from admin clerk to engineers and signalman. Something for everyone there and its well paid with a final salary scheme. :T

I work in the public sector and although i'm in a job am looking but i don't think there is much out there either and a lot of redundancies are happening with us also, I guess you just have to try and remain positive which is easier said than done.

Truegho - you say that there are no jobs in merseyside, are you tied to there would you consider moving if a position came up elsewhere? what sort or industry are you hoping to work in? Good luck with the search anyway

I feel I had to write again to say how utterly FED UP and MISERABLE I am feeling at present through being unemployed. The phone is staying silent EVERY day, despite my numerous job applications on many jobsites. I am not even getting any acknowledgements to my applications from ANYWHERE.

Honestly, I have never felt so low and despondent in my whole life! I am FED UP with Merseyside and its scarcity of jobs. I want to get out of this HORRENDOUS, SOUL DESTROYING rut! I just feel as if my whole life is passing me by.

And why the HELL are they saying on the news that recession may soon be ending, and that job prospects will improve? I don't know about any of you here, but I just CANNOT see ANY light at the end of the tunnel at all!

Are there any other people on here who are feeling the same bitterness and despair and dejection as I am? If so, I would really love to hear your experiences of the employers who NEVER reply and the recruitment agencies with their fictitious jobs.

To anybody who is unemployed, I really feel for you, as it is just the most MISERABLE, CONFIDENCE-ERODING predicament ANY poor person can be in!

Will it EVER end, is the question I keep asking myself?

    Despondent Merseyside Jobhunter

After ready your post I realise how fortunate I am being in a reasonably well paid job. Hope you find something soon.

Why on earth do you feel ashamed to tell anyone you are unemployed,
I am working full time but i certainly dont look down on anyone who tells me they are not working. Why would anybody.
Maybe you would feel better about it if you actually said 'I am job hunting', instead of 'I am unemployed' We all know it means the same but if it helps you then go with it.

Thanks for the tip about the Chamber of Commerce, will follow that one up. Have been for 3 interviews in the last 2 weeks and none of them have come to anything for the following reasons:

    1. I don't have specific industry expertise
    2. I didn't sell myself enough in one of the interviews (I knew the company very well but the interviewers were pretty awful)
    3. The company thought they would approach their first 2 choices first before seeing what's left!

Jobs that I once could have bluffed my way into and learnt to do while on the job using my skills, of which I have many, are now going to either friends of workers or internal candidates. Companies are being so picky now and it's quite heartbreaking.

Had my 13 week interview at the JC and now have to report back once a fortnight to discuss my options. I've gone right down the salary scale so am looking pretty much at anything that comes up. Oh and my OH reached his 26 weeks so can now be considered for a training course and a voucher for a prospective employer to cash in for taking him on. Could try BOGOF I suppose...!! :rotfl:

And the benefit system is PANTS!!! The JC say speak to the call centre, they say speak to the JC. And you have to ask for benefits not get what you're entitled to as a matter of course. Sheesh... if they were a private business... lol!!

Finally, McKneff... I already do voluntary work, so am keeping busy! But agree it's a great way to get back into a routine or possibly get a job.

I am now officially Dole Scum... although I tell everyone I'm "resting" between positions.

    Sackcloth.
Passing it on 24/7... while wearing stylish and confidence building heels!

Weeks until Christmas - 7, yes, I'm already counting...

    .

    Thats what frustrates me.

Would also love to do some courses but have a degree so am not eligable even though it would really help my career. sigh.

No interviews here, never been rejected for so many jobs yet I have had my cv checked and checked and everyone says its a really good cv. Think its just because it was quite a senior role and there arent that many jobs out there for that so applying for lesser ones or ones where I know I could do the role but dont have industry experience but just not getting anywhere.

Found one role I was really keen on and drove an hour to the place to hand my cv over and get 30 seconds with the hiring person so hope that has the impact I hope for.

Its absolutely soul-destroying. I was made redundant in August 2007. Since then I have had one job which lasted 5 weeks. I have used up all my savings, we live hand-to-mouth, and I have just about given up on the liars who operate most employment agencies.
If you are aged 19-25, there is some government help. However, if you are almost 64, like I am there is no help from anyone. All the Jobcentre wants to do is get me onto pension credit. It at least reduces their unemployed figures by 1 person!
The really frustrating thing is that I am highly qualified, and can't even get a job in a supermarket!!

Have you actually tried to get a job in a supermarket, try B&Q, garden centres, garage chains, they seem to prefer to employ more mature staff.

tell me about it im climbing the walls every day and i only got made redundant a week ago, i sent off my cv for loads of jobs the day after i was made redundant not heard anything from any of them as of yet may still be too early.
has everyone noticed the hours of the jobs available? i have seen loads for around 4-8 hours a week dont get me wrong i have applied for them but id have to get 5 of them to earn what i need. what makes it worse for me is my oh works away during the week and everyone i know has family and stuff so i dont want to impose on them so its just me an the cats im gona become the crazy cat lady if i dont get something soon. i have never been to the job center before so when i did go i was expecting some kind of 'talk' or something you know 'is there any training you want to do' or 'there are some courses available for you' i was a bit, i dont know, it was just, here is your benefit claim form bla bla bla see you in a couple of weeks to sign on, i know they must be over run with people like me at the mo but i was expecting some guidance on getting new skills to make myself more employable and info on financial help or something. im just rambling on now so ill stop
