Just thought i would do an update on this thread. After going to Trading Standards they advised her to write a letter and giving them 28 days to reply or legal action would follow. Mothercare replied back saying that she could take the pram in store and they would send it off to the manufacturers to get sorted. They gave her a replacement buggy and she didn't hear a thing for weeks. Eventually she was told that the pram could not be fixed so she could pick another one up to the value of what she paid.

She picked a buggy (that can be converted into a travel system) this time instead of a pram. Two weeks later and the buggy collapsed on her. She called Mothercare and they told her that the buggy is still under the 28 day guarantee so she can take it back for a replacement or a full refund. Needless to say that she is taking the refund, she just can't bear to purchase another pram from them

Many thanks to all who took the time to give your advice:D

Sounds like she may not be using mothercare again in a hurry! I too would take the refund and go shop somewhere else, hopefully problem free this time!

Is there someone you can report mothercare to over this massive health and safety issue? I would be rather concerned about the other hundreds of children exposed to this danger with the faulty prams.

I would write a stern letter to the manufacturer and Mothercare and state that you want a full investigation or you will be going to the press to force action as you are concerned at the risk they pose to children.

Hopefully they will find the fault and fix it and recall the ones they have already sold.

Mothercare prams are rubbish. I had 2 for my ds which both developed identical problems within a few weeks of being used. Every time I went down a kerb to cross the road the break would drop on lock the wheels, usually as I was half way across the road

Mothercares reply, always make sure I used the lowered part of the kerb (driveways etc) to cross over the road

Eventually I got in touch with trading standards and was offered a full refund or exchange. They didn't withdraw the pram from sale though, in fact they reduced the price and sold the old stock off.

I do find it quite shocking that a very well known retailer gets away with so much. I always thought that they were a trusted brand. I know too well that things could go wrong no matter where you get it from but i have heard so many stories about Mothercares own branded goods that it makes me so thankful that i haven't purchased any myself.

She has now purchased a small buggy from elsewhere (she never said where).
She is pregnant again so will be using her refund to buy a tandem nearer the time, guess where she won't be going

I purchased a pillow and drinking cup for my daughter from there. The pillow was of poor quality I felt as after one wash it was all uneven....the picture came of her cup and started leaking after about two weeks. The cup had only been dropped twice. I took both back on different occassions...and explained that I didnt keep the receipts for these items. The sales assistant said it was no probem...she took my address for there computer system and replaced both items without a problem. This was in Mothercare, Peterborough. Perhaps your sister should try a different store.....hopefully with some results...she could aslo say that she bought this from Mothercare as they are sell good quality products and didnt think to keep the receipt...hope it works out.
