I want to end my contract with carphone warehouse. I have a PUK number but need to sort out the pay as you go along option. I need to keep my old number. someone recommended i go with vodafone's passport option on a pay as you go along but i have not been happy with this company. i dont really receive any calls at present but would like to keep number just in case. i prefer O2 and at present am spending time in france.
questions:
1) what are the next steps now i have my PUK number
2) what do people think of 02.
Thanks in advance

I think you mean a PAC number - you give this to your new provider and the number transfer happens in a few days.
Using a UK SIM in France will be more expensive; I'd back up your friend's advice about Vodafone Passport, as an incoming call of up to an hour will cost you 75p flat fee, but on O2 you'd be charged 49p per minute with a Euro bolt-on, 99p otherwise. And outgoing off-peak calls on Vodafone would be 5p per minute plus the connect charge, O2 69p/min. On the other hand, an O2 SIM gives you a free one minute call home and a free sms, per week.

You might also consider French SIM cards, some of which have interesting bolt-on packages, eg Orange infinis, that could be used with a calling card
