Glad to hear it. The more we all stand up and refuse to accept shoddy service the more, hopefully, companies will stop doing it as a matter of policy.

In the words of the advert, "I'm a Mac" myself so I'd rather have the Macbook pro, but enjoy your new Vaio :-)

i cant handle the horrible grey of the windows in mac osx (in my opinion its ghastly and completly ruins what is otherwise a very good looking machine and os)

and this vaio is a mac look alike, (well.... macs are a sony look alike as far as they floating separated keyboards are concerned)

i personally prefer it due to the excellent 16:9 screen

Yeah I've seen them around. The screen is nice, but like I say not for me. I can see the attraction though!

yehh i have to say, it furthers the use of windows 7 snap feature

the extra width makes perfect viewing of two windows side by side

  • I am sorry that i have not been arround to check up on this thread ive been ultra busy the past week! Working a full time job 50 hours a week and running a part time business takes up too much of my time!!

I would like to thank all who have contributed to this thread, I have been preparing details to include in my final letter of complaint to HP. I took the view as they have already admited that it was an inherint fault that they previously tried to fix it was now their responsibility. Upon checking our receipts this laptop was purchased second hand from avforums and it is my wifes laptop which i purchased new in pc world.

Obviously i will be unable to go for the reseller but if i go back to the manufacturor and fight that the Service / Repair was not completed to a high enough standard. I have a local PC Engineer who i could ask to look at. He is most certainly going to confirm the fault and if the same as the original i should be able to argue that it should have lasted a longer time!

    Many Thanks in Advance.

i dont think they will do anything as hp are fed up of handleing the faults with the dv series and have (rightly) been redirecting people to the sellers

so be prepared to take on dsgi

  • I'm also having a problem with a HP laptop which is 18 months old. It has never been repaired as it has only just failed, but has all the symptoms of the Nvidia fault. I spoke to HP Technical Support who agreed it sounded like the same problem, but would not agree to repair it under warranty. As it happens I bought it direct from HP so they suggested I contacted HP Store.

I have rung the store twice and emailed them as I was asked to do. So far in 7 days I have not received any answers. I have quoted the SOGA as it does not seem reasonable that a laptop that cost nearly £700 should fails so quickly. Also, if it is the Nvidia problem then it was sold with an inherent problem.

I have also contacted Tesco Credit Card as I paid with this and asked for a refund under Section 75. Again, I have heard nothing in 7 days.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of how I can progress this?

    Thanks
  • Have you had any luck?
  • No, I've heard nothing from HP or Tesco. I have been away from home for a few weeks so not had much chance to chase it all up but I'm back next week and will start again.

I don't believe that HP should get away with this. Nvidia have accepted that they have a problem and set aside a huge amount of money to deal with the claims - HP need to refund customers.

I already own a HP desktop PC and 4 HP printers but unless I get a satisfactory outcome I won't buy HP again.

I will let everyone know what the outcome is. I find it very frustrating to read the threads on here - and then not know what happened in the end.

i had the same fault with my hp laptop i phoned hp and was told it was one on their list and it was repaired without probs but if thay hadn,t i would go down the small claims court as i have heard of people getting it sorted this way as it is proven to be an inherant fault I dont think it costs that much.
  • Mine isn't one of the ones of the extended warranty list so HP technical aren't interested. I will go the Small Claims Court route if necessary because I don't think HP should get away with it.
