i think everyone has a OH who thinks theres no point in saving,

    Nope...not me. :rolleyes2

I had a dream the other night that my OH was going to have an affair (when I say affair, I really mean a one off bonk).

He introduced me to the 'chosen one' and said he had booked a castle to do the deed in as he didn't want to upset me by doing it at home.

Needless to say I was exploding with rage at this point and then he said...I don't know why you're getting so upset, I used the Tesco deals vouchers to book the castle. :rotfl:

How much more MSE can you get? :D I was still furious when I woke up and had to phone him at work just to inform him how unimpressed I was. He ignored the affair bit and said he should get brownie points for trying to do it on the cheap.

Anyway, sorry OP...this thread just brought that back to mind. :) Perhaps you should tackle one thing at a time? Shopping seems to be the easiest thing maybe? Would it be worth making a menu planner and just buying the things you need for that? Of course if he's a 'throw it in the trolley anyway' kind of bloke then you'll need to leave him at home and go yourself I think. :)

Is the Sky in his name? If so, it will have to be him that deals with it which is a shame because if it were me, I'd have cancelled the multiroom as a start without telling him and see how long it was before he noticed, but you obviously can't do that if it's not in your name.

    Good luck.

I have this problem too with my OH and food shopping. i simply dont take him and then there are no excuses for a house full of cakes and yogurts!
every so often i let hom do the weekly shop and then remind him how much i spend and how it lasts for 7 days and not 2!
My OH is getting much better and we have quidco challenges, who can get the most cashbak etc. we also save our tesco clubcard vouchers for goldsmiths vouchers and every year we get a new watch each.
its baby steps with trying to turn OH MSE. I havent broached the sky yet, but all in good time. I would just set budgets for spending and ask your OH to stick to them, telling him how much quicker you will be mortgage free and able to retire earlier etc. Good luck!

Another one whose OH can't be trusted in tesco! He also doesn't deal with any of our joint household finances as it was stressing me out watching him make such a complete hash of his share that I just took it over. It's annoying, but not the end of the world if you can take control a bit. I think mine's happier with his weekly allowance, before that he had a spiralling overdraft and lots of bitty loans and credit cards. He's almost paid it off now but it's caused some friction! Now he just gets money out of the cashpoint at the beginning of the week and it has to last him, his cash card gets put in my purse so he can't get tempted!
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

That is exactly where I am now with my husband! My sister say that I cannot change him, but you are now giving me a hope!
Once he gets off his debts, then he will have much nicer life style I keep saying, but until then he has to hold back a little.
Mine is not allowed credit cards now.. And I MUST be allowed to have a look at his finances once in a while to make sure he is not going astray again.. It is annoying, but appart from this I love him and I am just trying to help.

Exactly the same with me Any! I have his online banking password and do little check ups every now and then. I know I'm treating him like a child, but it's his attitude that he must have exactly what he wants at this precise moment in time that annoys me. TVs: I wanted to thoroughly research and try and buy online with cashback, to get the best deal. I came home and he had been to one shop, and bought a huge telly that was totally inappropriate for our needs for about twice the budget I had set! Anyway, as long as I'm in charge life seems to run smoothly lol. I think some men are totally incapable of thinking in terms of the long run
