Sunnyday - thank you for the recipe hon!to the thread Owl
Tiredmum - Haven't heard from Tris in about 10 days.
Noahs - NEVER feel bad for expressing how you feel on here. Good or bad, your OS chums are here to support you. It's only an idea, but do you think that your body is adjusting to the lower dosage of tablets and hence the headache.. Like when someone cuts down on caffeine they usually get a headache? Either way - I hope you can see someone and have them try and work it out.
Twinks and Sybil - missing your posts, hope you are both Ok
Well my main computer decided to just not switch on last night. Am hoping it's the CPU but my OH has taken it down to the local computer nerd shop and left it with them, so we are hoping it will be back with us soon. I am not panicking because I know that the hard drive inside is safe so even if we can't get it working again we can take the hard drive out and copy it onto the laptop so I needn't start worrying about losing all my 'stuff'.
OS wise - more gardening for me today and gammon steaks with yellow stickered veg for dinner. Oh and the BM just finished. All the washing is up to date as with all this sunshine it dries in an hour or so. 12th sunny day in a row here, it's great.
Warm gentlefor all who would like one - Have a great day and if anyone sees any Kingsmill Wallace and Gromit vouchers, then please do think of me!

MSD, we had probs with the on off switch on our pc packing in. We managed to save it by getting the tiny restart button wired up. So small I have to use a pen to gently switch it on and a switch at the back to turn it off and we do hope to get a new pc soon but at least it saved the hard drive and all the stuff we have on it .Best of luck. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

hi all
thanks for all the advice and the sympathy:o
Have spoken to GP and he thinks it is a combination of 2 things...the stress of dealing with DS and his autistic problems over half term and the lack of sleep due to being up at silly o clock with him for the last few years..well since he was born actually...and also because I have reduced the dose of my anti d`s my seratonin levels have dropped and that causes a headache....he thinks they are tension headaches. Am back on 3 times a day tablets now from today so see how we go......so MSD you were right:D
FE hope the right decision is made re your dad....your mum really needs a rest by the sounds of things...do they have any home care at all?
good luck with the scan and hope it all goes right this time....my DB and SIL went through the same last year but after a few heartbreaking episodes decided to give up.....it must be very difficult.0 -
I'm so frustrated I could just scream!
The Social Worker is a lovely lady, but is pretty powerless at this point to do anything about Dad. As long as he is not 'a danger' (ie. physically) to himself or anyone else, he is allowed to neglect his own health & wellbeing as much as he likes, unless he actually collapses and has to be taken to hospital.
What will they do if Mum has a breakdown and has to go away herself? No-one can say!
The psychiatrist is coming on Monday. I'll be there if i can, but I may possibly be in having my eggs collected! If I can see him I'm tempted to tell him that if I find my mum in floods of tears again I will take her to live with me and there won't be anyone to look after Dad - what will they do then?!? Sorry but i just don't what to do and it makes me feel so....AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I SO do not need this stress at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Thats terrible FE!!
The system is terrible....carers are just expected to get on with it but there comes a point when you can no longer cope. It must be so hard on your mum to have to cope with caring for a man she no longer recognises at the same time as grieving for the man she has lost.
At what point is she eligible for help with this?0 -
Just wondered FE does your dad have an Admiral nurse to help him and your mum? It also may be helpful to find out about Alzheimers/Dementia support groups as the people there will have a lot of knowledge and experience of all these type of situations, may be worth a phonecall to one of them? Lastly I see you are in Bristol...there used to be a dementia care nurse consultant there at the Frenchay called Tracey Packer, not sure if she is still there but maybe the hospital switchboard may know?0

Afternoon all,
Another lovely day here, not as sunny but very warm...have had to water garden back and front....neighbour gave us some lovely tomato plants to add to the stock, not sure what type they are, OH has put them in so here's hoping. Took our first crop of butter beans in to-day for dinner to-night, love them when they are just picked.
Clothes line is full but reckon that I can take in enough clothes in a bit to put out wash that has just finished...love the fresh smell of line dried clothes.
Dinner to-night will be ham salad, will make some potato salad to go with it and everyone will be happy...might make some pancakes to go with cherries, raspberries and ice-cream for pudding....should only have the fruit I know but its only summer for a while!
Need to turn out and clean (and paint if I'm honest!) upstairs spare room, the bedlinen there is orange just because I have it, but I hate it and will just put it away for some emergency time when clothes won't dry.
Hope that everyone feeling bad recovers soon....NPM...hope that headache goes away, I rarely have one but hate them; FE...stay as calm as you can for yourself please, can't believe that your mother is entitled to no help...is there even a day care centre where your dad can go once a week...knowing that she would have some free time would be a great help I am sure.
Hugs to all

Hiya NPM & MArie - thanks for your posts.
Yes he could go to a day-centre once a week - but he refuses to go, and we cannot make him. He could also go into respite for few days - but again he refuses to go.
His refusing to do anything is one of the major problems we have and what drives Mum up the wall! At the moment he has not bathed for 3 weeks, won't change his clothes (he's wearing ong-sleeved shirt & sweatshirt in this heat - but insists he is 'alright' if we try to get him to wear less or change), have his hair cut or shave. For the last 3 days he's eaten mainly biscuits! If we try to give him other food he either refuses it or throws it away (or hides it!) as soon as our backs are turned. He also does this with his medication.
The memory-clinic offered to send someone to visit, play cards or whatever, or just chat to him, but he just says he tired if they come, or pretends to be watching TV and ignores them!
When he was well he was a very clean & tidy man, with a good appetite, and very sociable!
Mum could go to a carer support group (she did a carer's course last year) but it is the other side of town (2 buses & a fair walk - difficult with her knee) and she doesn't drive. It's while I am at work, so I can't take her either.
Thanks for the name NPM - I'll maybe try calling them tomorrow when I am not at work (after my scan). Will also chweck out Admiral nurses as not come across them...
Thanks all - bit calmer now but feeling very tearful (prob not helped by all the hormones!) - can't wait for the day to end so I can go & unload on DH!!!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

hi FE
sorry you have had such a poo day. hopefully you will get some fabulous news tomorrow at the scan to balance it out.
I hope you get a chance to offload to DH tonight and get a cuddle which always seems to make things a bit better:D
Apparently Tracy Packer left a year or so back to be an independant advisor/educator on alzheimers but hopefully someone else has taken on her role at the Frenchay....it is worth a call....I don`t know her personally but came across her work when doing my Nursing degree....(back when Florence was training lol)
I have found phone number for Admiral Nursing Direct, a helpline staffed by Admiral nurses. It is only open Tues 10 till 4 and Thurs 6pm to 9pm....0845 2579406.......they also have an email....direct@fordementia.org.uk
You definately need help though as your mum will soon be at breaking point ( if she isnt already:o).....hugs to you both and best of luck with your scan tomorrow....hope it is another step closer to your precious baby.0 -
Evening everyone :hello:
Busy couple of days here. Was cleaning and gardening yesterday and in the office today. 2 rubbish nights' sleep as well as OH was working both nights trying to finish work for people. Customers don't seem to realise he needs sleep. My cold has well and truly settled in my chest so it looks like my bronchitis is back.
Gardening club went well yesterday and each child took home their strawberry plants which were each bearing half a dozen fruits.
We've just eaten a huge prawn open sandwich for tea with coleslaw, bean salad and scotch eggs. Tesco have alot of frozen stuff heavily discounted including King prawns at £1 and I picked up 2 1.6 Kilo stuffed pork joints (frozen) reduced from £9.50 to £1. :money:
Just need to put the ironing away, make prawn sandwiches for lunches and tidy the kitchen. OH watered the garden for me earlier so that's one less job. Quiet night infront of the telly when they all go to bed.
Tired Mum... I hope it's good news tommorrow.
Welcome to Owl :hello:
Hope the head clears up soon NPM. x
My heart goes out to you and your Mum FE. Good luck for tommorrow. x
Bye for now
Haribo x0
