Sky do have a call-out charge as you own the equipment, whereas with cable you don't own the equipment - which is probably a good job as they go for the cheapest, slowest and out of date before installed equipment.
You just need to be firm with Sky and they'll fix for free. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Like others have said it's down to personal preferences and what your needs are. I've experienced cable TV/internet in the NTL days and found the internet to be fine, but could not stand the TV. Slow interface, box freezing/crashing. Sky + was a dream to use in comparison.
Having said that things may have improved since then - I've used a VM box at a friends house and still found it clunky - but perhaps that's as a result of being used to the Sky interface.
I no longer live in a cable served area so no longer have the choice.
If HD is important to you, then Sky HD is way ahead in terms of channel choice. Sky Broadband for me is fine - currently get 13-14mb on the Max service - no personal need for any faster and it's been solid in the 9 months I've had it.
Customer service has been fine with Sky but having had no problems with the service I've not really been exposed to it much - just the ordering/installation process which was painless.0 -
Hi,
Someone mentioned on another post that VM customer services were really bad...in actual fact a recent finding on Watchdog was that Sky were one of the top two worst for this catagory!!! VM weren't mentioned!
I have switched from one to the other and then back to VM and I have to say that Virgin have improved ten times from what they were a few years ago.
The V+ box is absolutely brilliant and if you get the XL TV package you have all the 'on demand' to choose from as well.
I pay roughly £46 pm (before call costs) and I get XL Television, L Broadband, M phone with international calls (extra £1.50 pm).
My only complaint is that there is a lack of HD channels but with a HD ready television (38ins.) it really is a big improvement on what we had.
If you want all the sports and movies then it may be cheaper to go with Sky but otherwise...VM all the way!!

I was with Virgin in my old house but now I have Sky and i have to say that if I had to make a choice on what i liked best it would be Sky the Picture hasn't falled me yet and is excellent. Having a multiroom is also brilliant and that gets you Sky Player as well, which you can have on you laptop for work......this means i can watch the up and coming Ashes and live Premiership football at work. I don't think that can be beaten.0

Sky may not have the best customer service, but when it works, their package is awesome! I just added SkyPlayer to mine, to watch all of the summer sports at work, and my entire office is chipping in! Get in!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
