iphone - contract never activated can I use it as a pay as you go?
Hi
After much deliberation I bought an iphone on contract last week from o2. It wouldn't activate the number so I phoned them and they told me it would take a few days which I thought was odd. However I phoned o2 back as 6 days later the sim still isn't active and was told that the store never put through the phone and contract correctly, the sim is not assigned to any phone number and that basically I have a pay as you go iphone 16gb for £57! omg!!
So I was wondering about getting an o2 payg sim and putting it in. I read on the o2 website that you get 12 months free o2 wifi with the iphone payg when you activate the number. So would I just buy the sim, put it in the phone and hey presto - a phone number, 12 months free wifi and then top up as I need or will the phone be blocked now? I think I'll get an o2 payg sim and try it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Never put it through, and they don't have your details are two different things.
You must have given them documents to pass a credit check, so they may well come after you in a while for either the contract, the payment for not taking up the contract (18 x monthly cost) or the balance between what you paid and the PAYG version. A week is a blink of an eye in company time.
Either take it back, Call them and try and get it sorted or put £600 aside in case they come after you.0 -
When they reconcile the contracts the following day (obviously wasnt done) they can see that the account doesn't exsist under the given phone number & postcode, the order will still be pending at the credit check point, they just re process it and it will be activated, maybe allbeit with a different phone number (unless you are porting in from a different network, or 02 pay and go in which case that will go through as requested) but it will indeed be discovered, and you WILL end up with a contract! Also, if a MISTAKE was made in the store and someone forgot to click activate on the last screen, this is a genuine mistake but one that may have severe consequences for them, so do you think that is fair? You get a shiny new mobile and they lose their job? Just think hard how you would feel in that situation.
KARMA!CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I was porting another phone number and was told it would take 2-3 days but was never given a temporary number. I was annoyed because after 6 days it still wasn't activated and phoned o2 again that is when they told me they had no record of the sim for the phone and therefore no number had been assigned at all not even the one I wanted to port ( I had given them the pac code for my number and that is on my receipt and order form).
I am happy that I signed up for a contract and will abide by the terms of that. O2 have all my details, the shop I bought it from has my details/address/ home phone number, it's up to them to get in contact with me now and when they do I'll pay up. If the shop knew/found out they had made a mistake, why haven't they contacted me.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0 -

Minor point not related to this in a sense is if you don't use a PAC code in 30 days it dies, If your number hasn't been ported by then then your old contract will still be active (because it's only closed by the PAC code being used) and you'll need to keep paying your old provider and get a new PAC code.0 -
Was you migrating from PAYG by any chance?
This will get picked up somewhere along the line, although to be honest I wouldn't be suprised if it hasn't already.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
I was migrating from a PAYG but not from o2. That's fine if it gets picked up, I'm certainly not going to argue with them about it, I signed the contract and knew what I was committing to.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
