Zero bidders not using Paypal

I have no problem selling to zero feedback bidders.

All of my listings state "payment by Paypal only" and my preferences are set so that you can not bid without a Paypal account.

Yet I have one item won by a zero bidder who wants to post a payment and where to send it, claiming that they do not have Paypal.

I have had another enquiry from one that wants to buy a couple of 99p items and pay by bank transfer.

Alarm bells are ringing, but I'm not really sure why. I don't think I have upset anyone that might want to neg me.

Any thoughts ?

    Youngsters is my only thought.

I have been selling a lot of stuff , mainly donated by my own sons' through a private selling account rather than my business. After several years of not receiving payment by any other means than paypal I have started getting postal orders right left and centre. They all go to people that sound young, a lot to university addresses and some even mention their mum will send me a cheque or such like.

I would only accept postal orders or cash (But make sure it is real and that the seller will send it at there own risk).

Do you mean the buyer? Or even the sender?

You can insist that buyers pay you using one of the payment methods that you list - in your case that would be only by paypal.

You can issue a non-paying bidder claim against anyone that fails to pay you by one of the acceptable methods.

I don't see your problem with this particular query.

Bank Transfer is the safest way you can receive money - No chargebacks, no paypal fees.

I'm sure most people would take up this offer as quickly as possible.

I disagree with using bank transfer as payment - you would have to give out your bank details to do so.

Postal orders are your best bet if you want to let these people buy the items. Don't post until you've cashed the postal order - and confirm that will be the case before they pay. Postal orders cash immediately I understand though..

As I understand it Postal Orders can only be cashed if they are uncrossed. If they are crossed they need to be paid into a bank account and take time to clear - I'm not sure how long, I guess the same as a cheque. i.e. 6 working days

Premier you're quite right, I looked into it:
    http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=73500709&mediaId=73500713

I assume on requesting payment you could always ask for an uncrossed PO and state if you receive a crossed PO you would have to wait for it to clear before posting the item - no difference at all there from accepting a cheque - if they're happy to wait - why not?
