What do you think the effects on the wider economy will be when:
    - government spending is reigned in
    - QE eventually gives rise to inflation
    - QE is stopped
    - Interest rates rise?

    - QE eventually gives rise to inflation. By no means a given also 0.1% increase is inflation
    - QE is stopped. Will happen when deflation stops
    - Interest rates rise? Will happen but I am not a believer in hyper inflation

    I commented on most.

people will be taxed more given.
All the inflation stuff is a bit crystal ball.

There are two ways out fast inflation(dangerous)
Slow growth, slow inflation (meaning low IR meaning debt is paid back and not defaulted)

I lean more to the slow growth bit myself.
Personal i think QE is used to pug a hole not to overfill.;)

You are assuming that QE will lead to Inflation. There is still absolutely no guarantee than this 'knee jerk' reaction is going to happen.

Government spending wil have to be reduced substantially, and the initial impact on the Economy will be bad, but if the Government in place can target the cutbacks, that can be mitigated.

Again being constantly pessimistic at times like these is the wrong attitude. You need to be cautious and pessimistic during the booms, because that will stop you being dragged into doing something stupid.

There will be plenty of opportunities and ways you can make your life better during the current recession if you have the right attitude and outlook.

There are many positive things that will come out of the current economic downturn, and those should be the things you focus on, not the negatives.

P.S. The title of this thread "Beware of Green Shoots" is hilarious
'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'

Sure enough. Nothing wrong with planning. You just have to make good decisions, and think beyond conclusions you come to from charts and stats.

I might buy a house in Aberdeen at the bottom.. Not for BTL purposes (I'd give it over to some charity and allow them to keep the pennies in rent their tenants are able to pay)... but as a monument to the dangers of narrow bubble-head thinking, and how their minds worked in justifying the crazy sums they got in to debt for on multiple properties.

How they justified their property rampage and leverage of debt with claims they bought it for their child so they could be mortgage free at 18. How they underestimated how property values can seriously correct from boom-thinking, to give a situations where money buys a lot more, and how there will be no return to peak in their lifetime... but with the paradigm smashed and investment looking for smarter wealth creating opportunities to back.

Man, you do love to take a few points from someones posts and go on at an awful tangent don't you?

It's very charitable for you to say you would buy a property in Aberdeen (or wherever) and give gratis free to some people "as a monument to narrow bubble-head thinking, and how their minds worked in justifying the crazy sums they got in to debt for on multiple properties".
but wouldn't you be getting into crazy sums of debt to give away gratis free?
It wouldn't be in your case as you'd have to buy a property first of all in order to be able to consider buying a second (multiple) property to give away

P.S. the jib about buying property for their children to be mortgage free at 18 has never been said before.

Once again you like to twist things.

I realise this is a swipe at myself for saying one of my BTL properties COULD BE utilised as a property for my son in the future. Never said he would get for free.

    What is wrong with that?

If you have the oppertunity to purchase something that ends up costing you nothing by way of tenants coving all costs then surely that is good business sense.
Much better business sense than getting into debt to buy something and then give it away rent free

  • Why is everyone picking on Really2. Its not her/his fault that prices went mad. If she/he can afford her 4 bed property and wishes the extra space for family and friends what is the issue.

Are you saying that everyone should have not brought at inflated prices thus forcing them down, if that is the case sureley there is some way of relaying this message to the masses than picking on one solitary person.
Or am I missing something here?

Why is everyone picking on Really2. Not everybody is :)

Its not her/his fault that prices went mad. If she/he can afford her 4 bed property and wishes the extra space for family and friends what is the issue. None.

Are you saying that everyone should have not brought at inflated prices thus forcing them down no

, if that is the case sureley there is some way of relaying this message to the masses than picking on one solitary person. YES, and so should one person not assume all comments about new builds are directed at them ;) - some idiots choose to get personal, which is pretty unconstructive and ridiculous, some choose to take things personally...which is similarly. IMO both types are on this thread.
Or am I missing something here?

Sadly, yes. These things are never confined to one thread, they are arguments of old, where most have given as good as they get, which doesn't make continuing the war less bad.

    Thanks:)

I sold near peak, purchased a 5 bed detached with a big deposit 27% below peak last August (and caught a low IR mortgage at the right time)

Do I call renters name or str's name simply because they made a choice? No

Some on here blame a pre-2007 rudeness by some on here as a reason to abuse people with a positive outlook on here (I was not on here pre 07)

Not sure what the problem is but their is a general sentiment against home owners on here.

I have even sent people links to isa's deals what mortgage rates are good on here.

I think some like to think that defending my self is abusing others the truth is I am usually defending my self but some do not want to see the nasty S**t some of "their own" post on here.
Instead they justify others abuse by making out it is the abused fault. They should be in legal professions;):)
