Have just had my new elec oven fitted (hoorah) but am finding it tricky to convert myself to using the electric i burnt toast the first time i used it :eek:however i made 2 banana breads and thay came out lovely....this may sound silly but is the oven the same temp all the way through as with my gas one it was hotter at the top.
Cant wait to do a load of batch baking if this is the case.

is it a fan assisted electric oven, ive just recently got an electric fan oven with a gas hob and ive really noticed a difference from my gas 1, pizzas cook a lot quicker resulting in me burning loads...lol kids think im terrible cook now even tho i keep saying "its the cooker its cooking quicker now"...lol roast dinner were a gr8 result tho and my yorkshire puddings were massive 4 a change... the fan directs the heat all around the oven resulting in a more even and quicker cooking time...or summat liek that...lol£2 coin savers club = £118

I'm saving madly for a decent electric double oven as my el cheapo gas one is dreadful. I can get a 2 GM temperature variation in 1 shelf height on mine
This makes for very strange timings for meals
However, the old owner of the house, who had the kitchen fitted told me she has got an electric oven for the first time and thinks it makes dreadful cakes (I feel like saying, come back and use your old one :rotfl: )
Some say that electric ovens can produce drier cakes, as gas keeps the air more moist. However, I would still prefer a fan assised leccy oven so that I have a chance of getting an even temperature throughout.0 -
When I moved house at the end of last year, I moved from an all gas oven to all electric. I'm still getting to grips with the ceramic hob (I liked the variability of the gas hob and I can't seem to judge this one too well yet) but it is bliss having a fan assisted electric oven (and its not a youngster this oven of mine!).
I now find that I can cook a complete meal in the expected time (rather than add 10 minutes to each shelf below the one above) and that batches of baking tend to be ready within a couple of minutes of each other (rather than having the top shelf ready 10 minutes before the next one down.)
As I say, still trying to master the ceramic hob - but at least it is easy to wipe down and clean when things do boil overEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -
Only fan assisted leccy ovens give uniform heat top and bottom a regular leccy one will be hotter at the top just as with gas. If it is fan assisted reduce the temp slightly to what you would usually use and things should work out ok and remember that you do not usually need to pre-heat fan assisted ovens.
IME moving between gas and leccy ovens in nowhere near as big a culture change as with hob when I'm at the coast (hateful gas hob) I can only produce food in two states RAW or BURNT. Give me leccy oven and hob anyday.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Is it true that you dont need to pre-heat a fan-assisted electric ovens?

Squibbs, pretty much .
Theres a light on mine will tell me when the heat is ready, its VERY quick. I was a bit aggreieved when I moved into my all electric flat, as I was a gas fan, but no looking back, its excellent! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I went the other way from a electric oven and solid hob to a gas cooker.
And I love it. Means I do more cooking as gas is so cheap. I love the fact that when you turn the hob down it turns down the heat straight away. As with electric hob you had to turn it down about 5 mins before you knew you wanted a lower temp.
Mind you I have insane fear I am going to gas myself :rotfl: if it does not light properly.
But would not go back now. Strange that.
Mine was not fan oven as they where more expensive and we doing the kitchen on the cheap. But it was ok but I found it hard to adjust as we had fan oven before. So things either cooked too quick or too slow. And it did have a light on it to say when it got to temp. But then I never pre-heat an oven. As I read somewhere that if you are cooking the item for more than 20-30mins there is no benefit.

Mine does have a light on it, but still seems to take maybe 5 mins to reach 200c. Is that longer than average or is it me being impatient? lolMy beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0

just read the replies i've got a gas hob (woohoo) and fan assisted oven although managed to make some tea loaf for the kids that came out ok.Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0

I used to have just a gas cooker, but now have a fan assisted electric oven with gas hob. I'm still getting used to the oven, everything cooks much quicker - and like loopylass30 loads of stuff gets burnt!
Still trying to work out turning down the temperature and cooking times to allow, which can be difficult if youre following a cake recipe!!
If you have cooked something in it say for 20-25 mins, if someone else comes in afterwards and wants to put a pizza in say for instance, then the oven is far too hot still and whatever it is gets burnt within 5 mins! I have to wait for it to cool down before cooking anything else in it or really watch whats cooking! ha ha
and they are supposed to be cleaner????? i find mine more difficult to clean than my old gas cooker I suppose because the fan must spurt all the juices etc around? - what does everyone else find with theirs??
and I still look for what gas mark it is sometimes instead of degrees C! ha ha
silly moo!0
