Time for a new contract - N97
Hi all,
I'll let you know what my situation is at the moment. I have been with o2 for about 6 years. Tried cancelling 18 months ago and they pulled me back in with an amazing offer. I've just come out of this contract now and my contract has gone up to £30 (as explained when I took it out). I am now in need of a new contract and my phone is getting a bit tatty too so would like a new phone.
I am going to wait until end of June / early July when the Nokia N97 comes out. You can preorder these from play.com for £500 but thats a lot of money! Does anyone know how much they are likely to be on contract? I'm thinking maybe £100 and a £40 a month contract?
My other question is, are o2 going to be one of the companies offering contracts on this phone? I know orange are going to but my gf has orange and the reception she gets at home is terrible. o2 I've never had trouble with.
Thanks all

I'm not 100% sure but looking at the products I have seen at work (at p4u), it would probably be free from 40/45 a month, I can't remember ever seeing a phone that you had to pay outright towards (apart from the stupid iphone) when the contract is over £40 a month.
Not sure what network it will be coming out on, but check in somewhere like p4u or similar as they will probably offer better deals than the networks themselves.
You can check online for network coverage, vodafone is the best usually (99.6% coverage) but 3 is quite good too.
Hope that helps, the N97 is looking like a gorgeous phone!

Yes you're right the phone looks great! Definitely going to be an iPhone beater! I've had the N95 for 18/19 months now and its been brilliant. Will be sad to see it go
:rotfl:
I would ideally like a £30pm contract and pay say £100 for the phone. Guess I'll just have to wait. Any definite release date yet? I heard 8th June but also 19th June.
On play.com you can preorder the sim free version but thats not out until August. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
We've just had word from Nokia that its new, much-anticipated handset will be hitting the shelves on 19 June. Consumers will be able to pick it up from Nokia's Regent Street store and at nokia.co.uk for £500 sim-free.
Alternatively, if that's a little over your budget, a week later (26 June) it'll go to the networks to be bundled with contracts. Nokia says that 3, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse & Phones 4U will be selling it.
What's interesting there is the omission of O2, however it's been previously announced that the network will sell the N97 only through Carphone Warehouse stores.

Arent O2 refusing to sell this (direct) becasue of the built in Skype functionality thereby potentially losing them revenue from calls? The Daily Mail

I have heard that but also heard a lot to contradict that. I would like to get it from o2 because they are the best at not messing with the firmware. I would install the original firmware anyway but that would void my warranty.
If o2 were releasing at a later date i'd be tempted to hold out until they do.This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
O2 are not stocking this device, as far as i know the other 4 networks are.
3 will probably have the cheapest price to get the handset for free. It would not surprise me at all if they offer a great deal on it promoting the skype application as they are giving free skype calls to all customers for life0 -
My wife pre-ordered the N97 last night from here http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/Nokia/Nseries-Multimedia-Phones/sb489/n447/p12765.aspx?lpsrc=google&lpcat=NokiaN97&lpgrp=NokiaN7Exact&lptxt=NokiaN97v4&lpkey=nokia%20n97&gclid=CI6O77Cl65oCFQWfnAod-A6xBw
She opted for the 18 month T-Mobile combi 30 + web'n'walk package 700 mins, unlimited text and internet for £34.26/month and £14.99 for the phone(they have now increased the phone cost to £29.99 for some reason on new orders). Could have had the phone for free if she wanted to take the next package up at £39.15.
Email comfirmed today that the phone will be posted out special delivery on Friday 19th June from the Nokia store a week before the they go on general contract release.0 -
Rang o2 customer services a few times. Some operative are saying o2 will directly stock N97. Others still saying no. Wish they'd give us a straight answer. I've been with o2 for years now and would like to continue this contract. I don't want to have to cancel and then rejoin the same company.
Can't decide between the wite or the black now. I really like black but will everyone just think 'Iphone wannabe'? I really don't want people to think that because I seriously dislike the Iphone. Can you believe they're only just bringing out an Iphone that can record videos. Or send/receive picture messages. Its stupid! This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
I know for certain that the N97 white is only in P4U for at least the first couple of months, so if you are desperate for the N97 you need to go there. If you like the iphone, get yourself an ipod touch and a decent phone. The iphone is an accessory, like a gucci handbag, not a phone!
I doubt o2 will get it, all they concentrate on is the Iphone at the moment because they are losing money from it apparently, so trying to get as much business with that from as many "sheep" out there as possible.
