? You need to take the case/side panel off to clean it properly, just dusting round the fan from outside will not do the job.
Who is sending you a new part?-you don't even know what's wrong with it yet!

    Heat sinks needs cleaning!!!!!

I'll liken them to the radiator on your car! if you blocked off the radiator your engine would probably blow up!!!

Please, please open the case and clean the heatsinks, its easy and all you have to do is blow air at them or very carefully hoover them!

Sorry didnt explain very well. Dh took the unit outside and did take the side panel off and fully clean it out..he has this done before after we got it just as routine and i wan't sure then seeing as it was not old at all but we seem to get lots of dust!
He phoned the company and they have said it is likely to be the power suppy burnt or burning out and they will replace OR we can send whole unit back for another..stupid thing is all my work etc is on there and i havent backed some of it up and need it..if this is the only way we can get it back then we have to try the part first or they will have all my work on the system as dh is adamant we are not turning it back on due to the poss danger of it.
Not happy at all as it wasn't cheap and this is the 3rd replaced part now..

Hmmmmmz, was it a branded machine or something put together by a local shop?
If they think its the power supply, they must be aware of a problem.

What else has already been replaced then? I don't think it's the drive that has failed, but if that is replaced or reformatted for repair then you will lose your data. No PC supplier will guarantee your data, backing up is your own responsibility.
You don't need to turn it back on to extract your data. As advised earlier, just remove the drive and copy your data over using a USB hard drive caddy.

I will ask dh later where it is from as can't remember but was made to order as far as i know and was a proper computer co not a local shop.
The hard drive is new as went and yeah i agree if they guessed it was the power supply that maybe it's a common thing with them? it has (dh says) more fans than our last one so shouldn't overheat as old one never did..we will see when the part turns up..
I know it is my responsibility to back up and im hopeless..if the new part sorts it im fine keeping it..not sure it will be the end of it though!
    Thanks for the replies

Good powersupplies are very expensive, many companies skimp in this area by fitting powersupplies that can't handle the power requirements of the system.
