    Post for Skinty

(sorry, got a bit carried away with bejewelled, so has taken me a bit longer to start writing this than intended).

I've been recommended (by my MW and my NCT class) a number of different things to try to turn the baby the right way round. None are guaranteed to work, but there is nothing to lose in trying, but everything to gain, I guess.

Anything that gets you leaning forwards so your stomach "hangs" towards the floor is good:

Washing the floor (or pretending to :D) is the perfect position. Make sure you relax your stomach muscles though - I found I was almost sucking them in but the key is to be as relaxed as possible as this gives baby more room to (hopefully!) move. The aim is for your pelvis to tilt forward.

Cleaning the bath was also recommended, although I haven't found that one allows my stomach to hang as much as the washing the floor one.

Figure of eight exercise - I've been doing this each night this week (except for last night because I went out). Get on all fours on the floor. Then, keeping your hands and knees still, move your body in a figure of eight shape. It's a bit hard to describe but start with your body towards your left knee, move up to your right hand, across to your left hand and then down to your right knee. Repeat 10 times that way, and then do it 10 times the other way (start at your right knee, move up to your left hand, across to your right hand, then down to your left knee) I'm not sure if that description makes sense or not? If not, tell me and I'll try and explain it better. When I first started doing this exercise, I found myself holding my breath (so therefore my stomach muscles were tight, defeating the whole purpose of it). Now, I breath in as my body moves up diagonally and breath out as my body moves down diagonally and have found my muscles are much more relaxed that way.

Just being on all fours and rocking is another recommended method.

Whatever you do, always keep your knees lower than your hips. If necessary, sit on a cushion or a pillow to elavate your bum and hips. I keep meaning to put a cushion in the car to help with this (I have a 25min drive each way to work) but keep forgetting.

Other things that can help are:
    - not to lie back/recline on the sofa
    - leaning over a birthing ball
    - if you've got a highback dining chair, sit backwards on this (on a cushion too, if you like) and lean on the back as this helps relax the stomach muscles too.
    - sleep on your left side (my baby is back to back on my right side, so am trying this too, but I keep waking up with really bad knee pain and having to move on to my other side)

Apparently, reflexology can help too, but I have no experience of this, so I can't comment.

Like I say, there are no guarantees anything will work but I'm happy to try any thing to get it to budge and have a slightly less painful labour.

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to ask me any questions if I haven't explained things properly.

    xxxx

I'm still here still pregnant but think bubs is shuffling his way into being engaged!!:T

SM - you may hate me for this so I apologise in advance..
I just found all our Christmas money  I thought I'd banked it all ages ago but no! over £300 for me n OH and £150 for Chris :o wish the bank was open all day on a sat so I could get it straight in there! I even have to admit it to MIL as her gifties were cheques so I don't want her to get a massive shock when 2 big cheques come out of her account that she's not expecting (although would be interesting to see if she would even notice )
