Carla - I sell Usborne books, so I've been making regular NI contributions (not with the small earnings exemption) as self-employed, so that qualifies me for MA. Here's a link to more info, hope it helps. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nic/maternity-all.htm

i have had a look through that already, and as far as I am concerned, I meet all the criteria - have no idea why the officer said i wasnt entitled to it. Have worked 16hours a week since last july - which is the 26 weeks boundaey which i qualify for, and i earnt more than £30 a week aswell. its baffling me, and i cant get any definitie answers. doing my head in.
    thanks for the help though!!

In case anyone's curious (I know jha's not around right now)...I've been doing TONS of research into cloth nappies and have tried to come up with the most MSE and practical solution.

Have basically boiled 1st buy down to the this:
    5 x Motherease Airflow wraps (@ 8.50) = 42.50 in small size
    24 x terry squares (2 x 12 packs @ 12.00) = 24.00 - I wouldn't have bought so many, but I feel like 12 isn't enough for a newborn!
    6 x booster pads = 9.00
    20 x washable fleece liners = 12.50
    Nappy bucket = 7.05
    Nappy bag (water/smell proof) = 5.86
    Washable terry baby wipes x 36 = 7.84

    Plus for convenience ONLY, 2 x all-in-one Motherease nappies for going out days (2 @ 11.99) = 23.98

    Grant total: £135.90 :T

(without the AIOs, it's £111.92) But this price is only for the FIRST purchase. More wraps will need to be bought as baby gets bigger...so around £40 two more times (there's 3 sizes of wraps). I actually would probably buy a few more booster pads, since I plan on using the nappies from day 1.

The big decision was to go with terry squares rather than shaped nappies. They're soooooo much cheaper for just a tiny bit of extra time to fold a 'nippa' it into place.

Also, these prices are new!! True MSErs would be scour eBay and similar for gently used versions of these . Hope this helps someone...I was jumping in blind, so it was a huge learning curve!!

    :money::money:

would like to win a holiday, please!!

jha, I can't remember...which wrap did you pick instead of the Motherease ones then?

also - you might be able to find some on eBay or similar (there's a website called Used Nappies that sells them) so don't give up hope yet!

Elle, if you see this in time, Asda and Tesco sell tiny baby stuff that should fit him. They fitted DS1 at 5lb5oz (skinny and long).

Thankyou Tia. I did look the other day and their versions of "Tiny Baby" are 7lb and 8lb!! Maybe they do an early baby size too which they just don't stock in our stores.. :(
