Was speaking to a friend about money etc when you're off work with a new baby, moaning about things being even tighter, & she suggested I see if we qualified for surestart grant. Thought it was for folks really on their uppers, but checked it out, & I think we might as DH earned a bit less last year so tax credits a bit higher than the minimum child element - will double check nearer the time. If we do, that'll be £500 - whopping amount of money for me - more than 2 months wages! :) If not, then as I wasn't expecting it I haven't lost out - that made sense when I wrote it?!

She has had two of her own, and will probably have another at some point, so she won't be put off. I'd just rather nobody but DH saw my unbra'ed boobs hanging down and pointing off to the sides! :D Anyway, put my jeans back on and a cooler top to show off my bump :D

Tara, my DH is a bit like that. Not in a nasty way just in a thoughtless way. They need it explaining to them slowly as they just will never 'get it' on their own.

I'd love to but my feet are not looking good at the moment, at this time of year I have to really moisturise them as I'm in flip flops all the time but I can't reach.

    OK, have caught up!!!

Lots of hugs to Skinty. One of my friends had her baby a few months ago. All through her pregnancy the MW told her that she was having a small baby (my friend isn't very big anyway) and to expect a 6lb-er. Baby came out at 7lb 1oz - so, not the biggest baby but certainly not the smallest! When MW saw her, she said "I don't know where you were hiding her".

My baby is also back to back at the moment, although the head is down. I'm currently doing exercises each night to try and get him/her to shift into the right position.

Elle - thank you for the update. Well done to Rhys on his great progress. You must be so pleased.

sami - happy due date hun. Let us know when you're ready for the labour vibes!!

Mountainlioness - yep, I am ALWAYS hungry. Last time I weighed myself, I'd put on one and three quarters stone and that was when I was about 31 weeks, I think. I'm 35+3 now and I'm sure I must have hit the two stone mark.

I received my baby gym today. We got this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0015CE670/ref=ox_ya_oh_product. We've done our nursery in really neutral colours (all beiges and creams), so thought a nice bright toy would be good. I had £20-worth of Amazon vouchers too from ShopandScan, so that made it cheaper. Has anyone got one/seen it in action?

I know what I was going to ask...

Does anyone else get hip and knee pain in the night? It keeps waking me up and I don't know what I can do to stop it. It started in my hips but the past few nights, it's been in my knees. The only thing that relieves it is if I get up and walk around for a minute. I have tried putting a pillow underneath my knees, but it doesn't make any difference. I don't know what else to try.

Do you think it is anything sinister or just the extra weight? It's just odd as the extra weight is mainly only my stomach which won't put pressure on my knees when I'm laying down.

Skinty - Sam was expected to be in the late 7lb - 8lb range - but was 5lb 13.5. He's on the bottom centile and is (at 13 days) 49cm long - so short too! My others were 7-2, 7-4 and 7-10. Number 3 was estimated to be 9lb+.

My bump was small - I only looked pg from side on, as it was all front and my waist still went very 'in' - also my hips were smaller (I'm a size smaller in clothes now than when I got pg - sorry peeps!!) (well, my b00bs aren't, but waist/ bum are!) I also managed to wear some non maternity clothes right throughout and in fact my maternity trousers that I did have started to fall down from month 8 as they had become too big!!

What the m/wives and hv have all said is that Sam is small but perfect - the only extra care I've had is one more m/w visit than normal to check weight and jaundice because of his size (his jaundice has only just gone) We were out of hosp 3.5 hours after birth, and that was only because of paperwork delays. They were that unconcerned by his size that they didn't even weigh him for an hour! (left him on me skin to skin until I went for a bath)

Ooh - and I know someone who had a 7lb+ baby yesterday (1 day early) whose bump was v small and neat - and still very high when I saw her on Monday!!

I know someone who's had a homebirth of a 6lb 2 baby - baby was expected to be small and it wasn't a prob. Some m/ws are just meaner than others :(
