Can a seller change the postage amount after you have won the auction.

Won an auction which stated the postage cost as one amount. After auction had finished, seller sent me an invoice with an updated postage cost which was more than the original cost when I won the auction.

Is this right???? :(

I have mailed the seller asking them to amend and send me the correct amount I bid for, no reply yet.. (only been an hour since i sent the mail though)

If the seller insists on the more expensive postage, do I have to buy? will ebay side with me? just don't want a negative strike if I dont buy thats all.

?? :(:(

How much was the postage on the auction and how much is the seller asking now?

Also, what is their reason for upping the postage?

  • I believe they can do it if your situation wasnt covered by the postal options offered, i.e. if you're non-uk and only uk postage was given, or if you want recorded when it wasnt listed. I believe price increases have to be mutually agreed.

The seller must stick with the original amount, unless you are in a different country, that he didn't quote for, or you asked for a special postage service that he didn't quote for originally.

Edit: Great minds think alike, WOA!

no, the seller can make 'reasonable' adjustments to postage after the auction,

it defo states it in ebay help somewhere, but i'm damned if I can find it at the mo

so, provided that it's not a rip off thing, and it's not that much, then, just accept it
it's prolly a genuine mistake from a relative noob

oh, can i add, whats your feedback like?, you a verified paypal member?,

if low, and no, then the seller has every rihgt to try to cover himself from chargebacks by posting special insured delivery

My rating is only 6 but 100%, my Paypal has been verified and used for all previous transactions. I live in the UK and requested what they advertised ie. 1st class standard which I'm happy with.

The amounts are miniscule (1.50 changed to 2.20, yet the posting pref has stayed the same i.e 1st class standard) but I posted because I thought it was wrong of them to do so. No reason was given for upping it.

Won't break my bank even if I had to pay it :) but if I'm not requesting anything different to what I bid on inc. postage options, then... in my books they are wrong not me.

It is wrong of them to do this, I would wait to see what reason they give for upping it.

Just tell him you cant afford that amount, You bidded on the item knowing the total cost would of been £???.

If he made a mistake entering the wrong postage its his mistake, I have done it before and I just had to cut my losses

    Item number is: 9116748245

Couldn't find any hidden charges. Maybe didn't look hard enough...

Like I said that amount is miniscule and doesn't bother me. It's just the fact that they've done it is what annoyed me.

Sent a mail yesterday afternoon, no reply yet... I'll wait and see first and then probably pay it anyway.
