Hello everyone, not sure if i'm posting in the right place or if I'm going to make any sense but here goes.........
Last Bank Holiday weekend I decided to buy myself a Netbook just for normal use, e mails research etc. I know nothing about them so I went to PC World and was shown all they had. I liked a little Compaq 702 that did all I wanted, it was small and easy plus it weighed 1.2 kilo's. The price for that weekend only was £269 so I said yes to it.
However, the girl who I was dealing with past us to someone else who in turn passed us to yet another assistant. We were hanging around that shop for so long before assistant came back saying he didn't have a 702 but that he did have a 700 at thirty pounds cheaper. He told me that the spec was identical and that at £269 was a bargain. I pointed out that he had just told me that it was £30 cheaper than the 702 but now he was saying it was the same price. I decided that for the same price I would wait until he got the 702 in stock or get it elsewhere at which he decided to go find the manager to see if he could reduce the price of the one he had. He was gone for seconds before he came back saying that he'd spoken to the manager and that there had been a misprint on the price ticket. Apparently there was no such thing as a Compaq 702 and never had been. Apologies for misleading us etc...
Now I know in hindsight that I should have checked this out but I didn't. I just handed over my money and left the shop. The following day I decided to read some reviews on the 700 just to see what people thought and low and behold I found out the there is a 702 afterall.
I feel really cheated and a bit of a prat that I believed the guy. I have e mailed the store but they don't really want to know. They just say that they will speak to the shop manager about the conduct of his staff. Although I do like the one I have it is very heavy to carry around and I have since found out that it is over a kilo heavier than the 702.
Sorry to be long winded but I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it

Sorry to be long winded but I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it
rite ha now its in a better place ill give you your answer
its going to be difficult for you tbh
they havnt actually done anything wrong(legally)
although they sold you goods under the misconception that there wasnt another model
you accepted to purchase this 700 model
you accepted the goods
it would be a different case entirely if you thought you were getting a 702 and got a 700 but you knew exactly what you were getting
my thought is that you should write to the store explaining your case once again and ask that they show consideration in your case and exchange the 700 for the 702
other than that i dont know what to tell you
theres not alot else you can do
oh and it may be worth emailing head office.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I have e mailed customer services but the guy was so rude i put the phone down. I rang again yesterday and spoke to someone else and he said the store should sort this by refund or by getting me what i wanted.
I know I accepted the 700 but that was only because they lied to get me to buy it. They saw me walking and decided to mislead me. Is that not wrong?
I think I'll go into the store tomorrow and speak with the manager.0 -
            Hello there,
I would tell you NEVER to shop there again. I purchased an ASUS netbook on the basis that my 3 mobile broadband worked with it - it did not!
They wouldnt refund it at first but eventually they refunded and gave me a £50 voucher.0 -
Theyre not a very good shop if they said to the OP that the 702 didnt exist,0

hmm
did they actually lie about the specs at all?
and did you actually see/feel/pick up the 700 model as well as the 702
apart from saying that the 702 didnt exist when it does did they lie about anything else?
these things are very important
they will decide the fine line between being mis-sold the goods and you accepting the goodsBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Hi there, when you say eventually do you mean you had to keep at them until you won? I don't mind doing this but store is a good distance from my home but e mails and phone calls appear pretty useless.0

Ok, I was taken by girl assistant to the Hewlett Packard stuff and shown a Newbook that was a Compaq 702. All the advertising around it called it a 702. I was asked what I wanted to do with it and the girl told me what it was capable of. She also said that it was the most up to date Compaq and that for the weekend the price was £269. This was £30 cheaper than the usual price.4743hudsonj wrote: »hmm

When another assistant appeared with the box saying sorry we don't have a 702 in stock but he did have a 700 that was the same. He was reluctant to take it out of packaging but eventually he did. It certainly looks the same and according to him the spec was the same. However, i pointed out that I would rather wait and get the up to date one for the same price. He then said that the 700 was in fact £30 cheaper than the 702 so I agreed that £239 was a good price and I'd take it. It was at that point that he said that the price was £269 and not £239 and that the 702 was £300. I told him that the advertiisements said it was a 702 at a cost of £269 and because of that I would rather wait and get the newer version.
He went off to speak with the manager and came back saying that they were so sorry but there was no such model as a 702 and that there had been a misprint on advertising labels. At this I agreed to take the one he had shown me, the 700.
Hope you can understand me now....0 -
Oh and he read the specs to me from one model to another. He failed to say that the 702 weighed 1.2 kilo's and the 700 2.45 kilo's. thats a big difference.0

yes i understand a bit better
see the problem is it is a very fine line in any case but yours is different as i will explain a bit later
yes they lied to your or were completly incompetant. Probably both! but you did accept to buy it
as for the price, the 700 wasnt on offer, so if at its normal price its sold £30 cheaper than the 702, then when the 702 is on offer for £30 less then they work out the same
they explained it confusingly
i have just done an in depth search and comparison using several site and all show the 700 to be identical to the 702
weight included
both weigh 1.1kg (some said they both weigh 1.15)
the 2.45 you are referring to is the net weight of the whole product including box and all accessories. This net weight is the same for both models
my guess is that the difference between them (because nobody else seems to know) is a bios update or something small like that. maybe a small problem was fixed?
as for your case
you dont have one
theyre exactly the same so i dont know why you think its heavy
by the way this info is off the hp support website, sales website and a few other sites including pcworld and dixons
(hp own compaq)
so theres no denying it, theyre the same thingBack by no demand whatsoever.0
