Beware O2 upgrade online
My contract finished a month ago, so i went to O2 website to upgrade. Got a new phone and it stated i would renew my contract for 18 months.
Just got my new bill and it is for £15 a month more than i was paying on my old contract. Phoned them up, and was told i was getting a discount on my last tariff and this has now expired. Told them this was not mentioned on the website and as far as i was concerned i was renewing for the same price for the next 18 months. I said i will return the phone and cancel the contract as it was not a straight renewal, and they said i cant cancel as it is past the14 days.
Have i got a legal right to cancel the contract as it is not the same as the last one i thought i was renewing?

I noticed that earlier when checking the online upgrades....but to be fair it does display the prices in the top right corner of the screen......What should I put in here that won't upset people.........0

One of the options was to renew the contract, which i selected. Don't recall seeing the price displayed anywhere.0

You did renew your contract, on the existing tariff. The discount you were receiving wasn't to do with the tariff.
When you took the discount from retentions it is for the contract term you take it over, not for life.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
You dont have a leg to stand on with regards to canceling an upgrade because the 14 day cooling off period was over 18 months ago. By upgrading, you confirm that you are happy with the service they provide, so there is no "14 day calcelation". You do however have 14 days to swap the phone if you dont like the one you upgraded to.
In regards to the £15 extra. Sounds like you orginally got whats called a "bill credit" Your contract should originally have been £15 more expensive, and the reason for the £15 credit is because you didnt get a high end phone at the time. This credit only lasts for the term of the contract (18 months), and its up to you to opt in to another bill credit for your upgrade. Im assuming that you upgraded to a high end handset to which bill credits dont apply due to the cost of the handset.0 -
so a discounted tariff of £20 a month for 18 months is not a contract0

Derick is actually completely wrong, although I'm sure its just the way he has read the post.
The OP was receiving a subscription discount, he will have negotiated this 18 months ago through the retentions department to continue receiving it for 18 months.
That contract has now ended and a new one has been agreed. It will have somewhere along the line Online stated the tariff and the price, OP is keeping the existing contract, he just isn't keeping the discount which was negotiated as a product along side his contract.
And o2 do do a 14 day cooling off period, in this you can cancel the upgrade completely and you will be out of contract and free to either upgrade again or disconnect.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
