Cancelling O2 contract

My DH was made redundant in Dec 08 and now needs to cancel his O2 contract. He rang up last week to do this but as he has lost his password (its ions old) they said he cannot cancel without this. He can give then all other info, bank details DOB, blood group :rotfl:etc but to no avail. He's already explained that if he can't cancel there will be no money in for the bill as his JSA expires next week.
Any advice wise people?

As a last resort he can go to an o2 store with photo id and they can call the call centre and confirm him.

If he is still in contract they will ask him to pay a termination fee equal to the amount that would be owed until the end of the contract. So he won't be any better off and will not have the use of the airtime he will be asked to pay for anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

What macman has said is very true, unless they are allowing him to disconnect on discentory (cant spell) ground, or managed to convince them that removable of chargeable bolt on is ground to cancel (doubtful since it was over a week ago.) So Susie I think better tell him to call back and make sure he does not get a big final bill afterwards and why is JSA finishing next week?0

How far away from an upgrade is he?
Reason I ask is they can offer early upgrades and transfer you to a Simplicity Monthly contract, I have recently been offered and done this as it saves me £15/Mth and in effect finishes my 18 month contract 4 months early.
You say you can't afford the Contract and wish to transfer to a Simplicity Monthly one, lowest price is £9.68/Mth IIRC, once this has gone through you can then cancel giving 30 days notice and not impact your credit score or future history.
Just a thought.Cheers

sjc - How far away from an upgrade is he? not sure. I'm 'sure' he is already on the Simplicity as he only pays £15 a month as it is.
Thanks all for your input

might be worth posting in the benefit section cause I am sure it should carry on or move onto something else.0
