so are you saying that the new lead the engineer has drilled the hole for is a 2nd coax cable then?0

therefore i do not need coax lead as i have already extended this. i need a cable that will extend a current HDMI cable into a longer HDMI cable to go into the back of the SKY HD box
ok:/
that makes little sense
so why do you need a bigger hdmi?
are you leaving the box where it is?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Yes. To use a Sky+ box you need a minimum of a twin LNB and two feeds from it to your box-one for each of the twin tuners.
The HDMI connection is only between the digibox and the TV.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
PS: Am I right in thinking that the SkyHD box incorporates Sky+ (i.e twin tuners and a hard disk)? So that if you upgrade from basic Sky (not Sky+) to Sky HD, it would run on a single feed, but they have to fit a twin or quad LNB anyway to make the '+' bit functional? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

OP, reading this again I don't follow why (if the coax (or coaxes) has/have already been extended to allow the box to be moved, you need a longer HDMI lead? I'm assuming you have moved the TV, then moved the box with it as now allowed by the coax extensions.
So why can't the original HDMI lead be used?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
hi thanks for everyones input. think i got it now. but it turns out i probably will not need to BUY and extension cables.
i had my tv in a different position when i got normal sky installed then i moved the tv. so i had to buy a coax extension. i am now moving the tv back to the original place where i had it. so that extended coax cable will not be needed but i will use it for the extension of the new coax after i had sky hd installed.
many thanks and thanks for helping me save money lol0 -

ok, i understand now too! but like i said
im pretty sure sky sd and sky hd coax cables have 1 and 2 cores (respectivly)
so your current 1 core cant be used to extend a 2 core hd coax cable
i may be wrong but im 90% sureBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

I thought it's just that when they do a new install requiring two feeds (for Sky+ or Sky HD), they would use what I think is called shotgun cable (basically 2 coax cables in a single sleeve). I don't think HD requires 2 cores to carry the HD signal, it's just the feed to the other tuner that you get with the HD box anyway.
If you were having a Sky+ install from scratch, they would also use the same 2 core cable in order to supply the required 2nd feed for the second tuner.
If there is already an existing single coax from a standard Sky install, then they might just run a second single coax next to it rather than rip it out and run a new 2 core.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

thatmite be what i was thinking of
i knew there was a 2 core cable somewhere!
thanks for the correctionBack by no demand whatsoever.0
