  • 'Internet now costs less than a newspaper a day and is hardly a luxury'

It is a luxury, that could be forgone for somthing such as a loaf of bread, or a pint of milk. Buying a computer you knew you could not afford is a luxury.

I personally feel that financial hardship cases are for people in real real hard times. If you can afford the internet then you in my opinion fall outside this remit.

You talk of walking the line financially then carry out actions like this.

    Strange

The last word you have used in this post is exactly my thoughts on the whole post.

cOk so I have a reply of sorts but Im uncertain how to proceed

They rang me the other day and was asking about my finances. Hmmm I did figure at the time I had no compulsory reason to talk to them but I needed to get across my situation so I told them most of the bad points, ie £300 owed to electricity, £500 to social fund. Needing the car. etc

    I received this letter,

    Dear Mr *****

Following your recent letter (template letter 1) to our Andover Office and our telephone conversation about Financial Hardship, I would like to confirm the following:

    * You asked for help with your charges, I confirmed that the charges were part of the Test case waiver and that this part of your letter would have already been answered by our Andover Office . (They have not answered anything yet)

*We discussed your current financial situation and went through your income & Expenditure details. We also discussed your financial commitments outside of Lloyds TSB. This was to assess you for Financial Hardship and therefors agree the most suitable option to assisst you through this time.

*As mentioned you do not currently meet our criteria for Financial Hardship and because of this we are not able to help you further. I would suggest that you discuss your future requirements with you local branch

I hope you now feel that I've been able to answer all the points you raised with us. Please treat this letter as our final response. This means that if your still unhappy, you can ask the Financial Ombudsman Service to investigate your complaint, so long as you do so in the next six months.

    blah blah

Raging is not in it, what do I have to do to qualify??????
Honestly I WOULD BE BETTER OFF IN JAIL, AT LEAST I WOULD GET THREE MEALS A DAY, MORE THAN I GET NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

The bank have complied with the FSA Waiver on bank charges. You need to tell them the good the bad and the ugly(not just the really ugly.
Have you sat down and gone through thoroughly your own finances.

Please look at anywhere where you have room to save money. If you have a surplus then that is why they made the decision, if its a deficit have a look again at whether there is any room, ie PPI claim on credit card, charges on them etc, etc,.

I have just read through this post for the first time. Personally I do not think it is constructive or helpful for anyone on this forum to judge the way in which another person manages their finances. Yes MrScabby you probably did vent your spleen in the bank and yes it probably did put staff on the offensive, meaning you wouldnt have gotten anywhere even asking for a pen. Branch staff are not experienced with the bank charges fiasco and Im sure having read all the helpfull advice on here from the many people going through the hardship claim route you will be pointed in the right direction. Personally I find it a systematic paper trail and followed correctly and without venting the spleen may well get you the result your looking for. Some may call it being shrewed. did i spell that right. Anyway none of us can judge. And everyone has screwed up with money. It bores me to death to read people making comments about "you can afford the internet so why cant you afford x.y.z". There are internet connections that do come free, the critics obviously havent found out about that those and are paying through the nose. All the best with it and try not to scare the bank staff next time :rotfl:.

To clarify, I find the comment that having Internet connection should mean being rejected for financial hardship completely rubbish and I would not class internet access as a luxury. I have offered advice to you and I hope that's ok.

Sorry if I'm being a bit dim but everything I see in that link requires that you pay for something to get broadband.
