Variable Internet Speeds/Problems with TalkTalk

I have a computer upstairs in my room with a wireless network adapter which draws a signal from my dads compuer downstairs.
We have been experiencing problems accessing the internet but cannot find out what is causing this. We have altered things around so that the router and computer are plugged into the master socket (although we do not have a test socket). We have wired it up so that only the one telephone is wired in and then we have a microfilter on this line connecting in the computer and the main telephone.
Whilst things are better, we are still getting varied download speeds and I'm not sure that everything is ok. If we had a dodgy router would be fail to get the internet at all? These are the readings from running download tests:
11/5/2009 – d/load 536 upload 382
12/5/2009 – d/load 472 upload 260
13/5/2009 – d/load 2144 upload 524
27/5/2009 - d/load 184 upload 417
31/5/2009 - d/load 1224 upload 562
1/6/2009 d/load 392 upload 259
1/6/2009 d/load 872 upload 538
1/6/2009 d/load 560 upload 472
Does this look right? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Do not waste any time or effort with them - just get the MAC code and move to BeUnlimited - I wasted months with TalkTalk before I 'saw the light'!0
-
dont think that is an option because it's in my dads hands and I understand it is not costing alot (free i think).0

You asked about this weeks ago - perhaps you should invest £12 a month from your winnings and get a proper connection!0

just noticed something:
I have a Desktop and a Netbook upstairs. The speed from the wireless adapter in the netbook is always faster than the desktop. I have two wireless cards/adapters from the desktop - is this a problem?
These are the details from the device manager:
Desktop - Network Adapters:
Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A+G PCI Adapter
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (there is a red cross on this???)
Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
Netbook - Network Adapters:
Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter
Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver
Generic Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Is there anything in this - any need for a new/different/better netwrok adapter in the desktop?0 -

What winnings? We (well my dad) would obviously prefer to get it sorted with TalkTalk given that it isnt costing anything.
Yes we had problems a while back but they cleared up. But now they have got worse!0 -

You are connecting with the internet at around 6mbps.
I suspect some of you problems are due to using wireless adapters, try using ethernet. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
