Tampa/Orlando car rental - best deals

We hire a car each year for 16 days beginning on 27th Dec - pick up at Tampa airport and drop off at Orlando international. Last few years we have used netflights/Dollar however after one issue too many (pay an extra $200 or wait anything up to 6 hours for your car being the last one) we won't use either again.

I've had a look at some sites however the prices seem very high. I know most companies secure their rates for the year ahead and the £ was poor at yesr end however are there any companies which offer better, more up to date rates? Some are quoting £81 for an additional driver and a tank of fuel which seems outrageous.

We need an intermediate or full size, 2 drivers (both 35+) and fuel included - is £440 the best I'm likely to get?

Was interested in CarHire3000.com however have heard horror stories of people being forced to pay up again on arrival.

Any thoughts?

Had no probs with CarHire3000 a couple of years ago - very good service with Alamo at Seattle airport.

We've booked through Usrentacar this summer, from Vegas. Very competitive price.

we find fifteen02.com the cheapest for the last 3 years usually they have free upgrades with budget, second comes usrentacar.

Just saw you comments about paying again. We havent ever been asked for extra and last time budget even told us that we had the highest cover and they couldnt even do it for the price we paid.

Surprised you've had issues with netflights. I've used them 25 - 30 times and they've always been spot on.
Had to wait an hour or so for a car at SFO twice but each time got upgraded to a far better class of car than was ordered.

Usrentacar.com have a decent deal with Budget which offers a free upgrade. I think I'll probably go for it (once I've checked out fifteen02.com)

We used Airline Network about 12/15 times without incident then had 4 horrendous experiences in a row with them and Dollar and they couldn't have been less helpful. The final straw surrounded being told we had a 6 hour wait for a car unless we paid a $200 "upgrade" fee - Airline Network consider that to be perfectly acceptable, in fact they told us as long as Dollar give you a car before midnight on the day the rental starts then you have nothing to complain about, so I suppose we were lucky we weren't waiting 23 hours!
